Standard 4 - Learning Environment – The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.
In the Spring semester of 2019, I developed a class website for my General Methods Class, AEDU380. I created this website/artifact to provide an online outlet for parents and students. Further explaining classroom rules, expectations, procedures, and schedules. The website was produced to create an open dialogue with parents/guardians. I want parents to be comfortable and most importantly, encouraged to participate in their child's education.
he below standards are the one I feel I best represented with my artifacts at the bottom of this page:
4I) creates a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning.
4J) creates clear expectations and procedures for communication and behavior and a physical setting conducive to achieving classroom goals.
4L) analyzes the classroom environment and makes decisions to enhance cultural and linguistic responsiveness, mutual respect, positive social relationships, student motivation, and classroom engagement.
4O) uses a variety of effective behavioral management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students that include positive behavior interventions and supports.
This website connects Standard 4 of the Illinois Professional Teaching standards due to it facilitating an open dialogue with parents and teachers. The importance of this artifact is to create and showcase a healthy learning environment. My pages discussing classroom rules and expectations, as well as my reward/consequences page shows evidence of my understanding of the standard. The website also shows that I "understand how to help students work cooperatively and productively in groups." (4C)
I plan on using this artifact in my future teaching classrooms. I will reference this website and use it as a template. I learned a lot about how technology within the classroom is a great way to share knowledge with parents near and far. This website helped me develop as a teacher by showcasing what is important to me in my future classroom. I look forward to implementing these strategies in the near future.
