It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of the school year—where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday we were meeting for the first time, and now we’re wrapping up a year filled with learning, growth, laughter, and memorable moments.
It has truly been a pleasure partnering with such a wonderful group of students and families. Your support, enthusiasm, and collaboration have made this year incredibly special. Thank you for being such an important part of our classroom community. Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
Language
We wrapped up our language learning this year with creativity and collaboration! After finishing their choose-your-own-adventure stories, students had a chance to share them with classmates—exploring different paths and outcomes together. It was a fun and imaginative way to end the year and celebrate everyone’s unique writing voice.
We also spent time creating individual pages for our classroom digital yearbook. Each student reflected on their favourite memories and moments from the year. The finished yearbook has been shared with students and can be found in their Google Drive under "Shared with Me". It’s a wonderful keepsake of a great year together!
Math
This week, students put the finishing touches on their probability games, carefully testing and refining their designs. Once everything was ready, they had a blast playing each other’s games—applying their knowledge of chance and strategy in a fun, hands-on way. It’s been fantastic to see creativity and math come together so naturally as they explored probabilities through play!
Physical Education
It’s been another hot week, so we’ve been making sure to stay safe and cool during our physical activities. Most of our outdoor play has taken place in the courtyard and shaded areas, giving students a chance to move and have fun without overheating. Everyone’s doing a great job balancing activity with self-care as we wrap up the year!
The Wrap-Up
As we close out the school year, it’s been a week full of celebration, reflection, and a little bit of well-deserved relaxation! Students enjoyed some long sought-after free time, a chance to unwind and enjoy their final days together after all their hard work.
On Wednesday, we came together for our Character Assembly to celebrate the growth and positive qualities our students have shown throughout the year. Report cards also went home that day—another great opportunity to reflect on progress and achievements.
Thursday was our big movie field trip to see Elio—a fun and exciting way to wrap up the year! A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make the day a success. I truly couldn’t have done it without you!
We ended the week on Friday with some serious cleaning and organizing, getting the classroom ready for summer and new beginnings.
Thank you to all the families for a wonderful year of collaboration and support. And to the students—thank you for your hard work, kindness, and for creating such a caring and fun classroom community.
Wishing you all the very best as you head off to Grade 6! Have a fantastic summer! 🌞

Can you believe there's only one more week left of school? As we head into these final days, excitement is definitely in the air—and so is the heat! With warmer temperatures expected, please stay tuned for any heat warnings or schedule changes. We’ll keep you informed about what we’ll be doing differently at school to help everyone stay cool and safe.
We’re also wrapping up the year with a fun field trip to the movies—what better way to celebrate all the hard work and great memories we've made this year? More details to come, but get ready for a fun finish to a fantastic year! Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:
Language
What a fantastic end to our language unit! This week, students delivered their final podcast presentations for The Big Fib project—and they were absolutely incredible! From creative scripts to confident delivery, every group brought energy, humour, and some serious detective skills to the mic. It was so impressive to see their hard work come to life in such a fun and engaging way.
We also dove into writing our own Choose Your Own Adventure stories, all centred around summer experiences. From unexpected road trips to beach-side mysteries and campfire surprises, students let their imaginations run wild. Next week, they will be sharing their stories with one another.
The Arts
We’ve been wrapping up the year with some fun and focused guided drawing activities. Students explored upside down drawing to challenge how they see shapes and details—an excellent exercise in observation! We also dove into 2-point perspective, learning how to create depth and dimension in our drawings, with some very impressive results.
To finish off, we practiced drawing portraits, focusing on proportions and facial features. It’s been amazing to watch students grow in both confidence and creativity as they tried new techniques and shared their work.
Math
Our final days in math have been filled with creativity, problem-solving, and lots of fun! Students have been wrapping up their probability games, using everything they've learned to design and test games of chance. It was great to see how they applied their math skills in such imaginative ways.
We also explored coding through Minecraft Education, taking on challenges like Build a Better Bedroom, where students used code and design thinking to create their own ideal rooms. Another highlight was the Wheel of Steve challenge, inspired by the Minecraft movie, where students used math and logic to make choices and solve problems in an interactive Minecraft world.
To top it all off, students put their skills to the test during Field Day, where they got to create their own games. What an awesome way to celebrate what we’ve learned this year!
Health
This week in health, students showed incredible thoughtfulness and maturity as they presented short skits about stressors related to puberty and shared strategies to manage those challenges. From friendship struggles to body changes, each group explored real-life situations and offered creative, supportive solutions.
We also had meaningful discussions around the power of random acts of kindness. Students were challenged to complete three acts of kindness throughout the week and reflect on how it made them feel—and how it might have impacted the other person. The reflections were heartwarming and showed how small gestures can make a big difference. A great reminder of the importance of empathy, compassion, and connection.
Physical Education
With the heat on the rise this week, we’ve been taking it easy in Phys Ed while still finding ways to stay active and have fun. Indoors, students enjoyed some friendly competition with bench-ball, a great team game that kept everyone moving and engaged.
When we did head outside, we made sure to stick to shaded areas for some light outdoor play, focusing on staying safe and cool. Whether it was low-impact games or just enjoying some movement in the breeze, students showed great sportsmanship and flexibility.
The Wrap-Up
It’s hard to believe, but next week is our last week of school! We have a few exciting events to look forward to as we wrap up a fantastic year together.
We will be celebrating our learning and growth at the Character Assembly on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. Families are welcome to join us as we recognize the amazing character our students have shown all year long.
On Thursday, we’ll be heading out on our movie field trip! If you're having any trouble accessing the EMA system or School Cash Online, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m also more than happy to cover the cost of the trip for any family—just let me know privately, as I’d love for all students to attend and enjoy the day.
And finally, the last day of school is Friday! Let’s make it a great final week together!
June 13th, 2025
It’s hard to believe we’re already in mid-June, with just two weeks left of the school year! As we approach the end, we’ll be taking time to reflect on all the learning, growth, and memorable moments we’ve shared. Today, students were excited to find out the winners of the Character Awards—an honour voted on by their peers. Here’s what else we’ve been up to this week:
Language
This week in Language, students have been putting the finishing touches on their Big Fib podcasts—and what a fantastic job they’ve done! We had some incredible presentations where students truly impressed me with their detailed research and clever delivery. They even managed to stump the audience more than once as everyone tried to guess who the expert was and who was the fibber!
I'm so proud of the effort and creativity that went into this project. It's amazing to see how far we've come, from listening to podcasts earlier in the year to now creating our own. We've truly come full circle!
Math
This week in Math, students dove into hands-on learning by designing and conducting their own probability experiments. It was a great opportunity to revisit concepts from our very first unit on data management, as we tallied results and analyzed patterns in the outcomes. One of our key discussions focused on sample size—students discovered how smaller samples can often lead to skewed or less reliable data, while larger samples provide a clearer and more accurate picture of probability.
To end the week, students began working on their own original probability games. From dice rolls and spinners to creative twists and challenges, some awe-inspiring ideas are coming to life. It’s exciting to see how students are applying what they’ve learned in such a fun and innovative way. We’re looking forward to playing and celebrating their hard work during the last week of school!
Physical Education
We took full advantage of the beautiful weather this week with some outdoor play. It was great to be outside, staying active and enjoying the sunshine. Indoors, students had a blast playing several rounds of Octopus, showing quick thinking, agility, and plenty of enthusiasm.
We also revisited our earlier volleyball unit, and it was incredible to see the growth in skill and confidence since the start of the year. Students demonstrated strong bumps, better volleys, and great teamwork. I have no doubt that many will be ready to shine on the Grade 6 volleyball team next year!
Health
In Health this week, we explored the topic of stressors related to puberty and how they can impact our emotions and daily life. After reflecting on our own tool-kit of mental health strategies, we explored the breathing activity below. Students also worked in small groups to create thoughtful and creative role-plays, where they supported a main character in managing stress in healthy ways. It was inspiring to see the variety of strategies they came up with—from talking through emotions with a trusted adult or friend, to using breathing exercises, journaling, or simply taking a break.
Next week, we’ll be wrapping up our unit by answering lingering questions, continuing with group presentations, and shifting our focus to the power of random acts of kindness.
Dance
This week in Dance, students shared some amazing presentations on cultural dances from around the world. Students showcased video demonstrations—some even included personal or family examples—which added a meaningful and authentic touch. Each group also explored the sociocultural and historical background of their chosen dance, helping us all better understand its origins and importance.
It was wonderful to see students take the time to research and learn about traditions from cultures beyond their own. Encouraging curiosity and respect for others was one of my goals this year, and this project truly reflected that. I’m so proud of the thoughtful work and engagement students brought to their presentations.
The Wrap-up
Another great week of learning is behind us! Students have been actively engaged with exciting learning activities and challenges in Minecraft for Education, bringing creativity and teamwork into the mix. As we head into the final week of school, I’m hoping to take the class to Earl Bales Park for some outdoor play, and we are hoping to get in a field trip! Don’t forget, our final character assembly will be on June 25th at 1 pm.
Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday!
June 5th, 2025
Welcome June and the warm weather! This week, our students have been soaking up the sunshine and making the most of the beautiful days outside. Along with enjoying the outdoors, there’s been plenty of learning happening in the classroom. Students have been actively sharing their knowledge with each other, building skills and confidence every day. Here’s a look at what we were up to:
Language
This week in Language, students have been busy working on the scripts for their Big Fib podcast. Many have already started recording, and it’s been amazing to see their research come to life as they share what they’ve learned in such a creative and engaging way. Next week, we’ll continue with recording, and hopefully, we’ll get to listen to an episode or two—can’t wait to hear their episodes!
Math
This week in Math, we wrapped up our unit on transformations and dove into our final unit on probability. Students are learning the language of probability and how to represent probabilities using fractions. Next week, the excitement continues as students will conduct and design their own experiments, and even create their own digital probability games. It’s going to be a fun and hands-on way to explore chance!
Health
In Health, there was lots of group work and meaningful discussion as students became more comfortable talking about puberty. We wrapped up our lesson on menstruation and began exploring the emotional and interpersonal stresses associated with this time of change. Students created lists and mind maps to identify different stress factors, then chose one to bring to life through tableaux performances. Their dramatic presentations were incredible and showed a deep understanding of how these stresses affect people. As we near the end of our health unit, the drama continues next week with students creating short roleplays focused on managing these stresses.
Physical Education
With only one Phys. Ed. period this week because of the PA Day on Friday, students made the most of their time outdoors by playing a variety of games such as volleyball, Frisbee, 4-square, football, and soccer. Some students also took a break in the shade to get creative with sidewalk chalk. It was a great way to stay active and have fun!
The Wrap-Up
As mentioned before, tomorrow is a PA Day for students, so there will be no classes.
With only three weeks left of school, we’ll continue working on exciting projects like our Science Websites and Probability Games. Students will also keep sharing their incredible dance presentations. Next week will be the last week for many of these activities.
I hope you have a wonderful long weekend, and we’ll see you back on Monday!
