We emailed the Parents Association, the Board of Management, local councilor Tom Farrell and IMC cinemas Athlone with regard to our environmental concerns. We also up-cycled chairs, bird tables, CD's, picture frames and shelving units through repainting and refurbishing.
We used the hydro dipping method to bring old objects back to life also.
We involved the whole school from infants to 6th in our up-cycling of crayons for use in our ASD class 'Croí agus Caoi'. This included every class participating in each of the steps
Unwrapping the crayons (2nd and 3rd class)
Sorting them into colours (Infant class)
Breaking, smashing them into a powder (1st and 4th class)
Putting the powder into the molds (4th, 5th and 6th)
Melting them in the oven (5th and 6th)
We sent an email to Tom Farrell to ask if he would help us with our project. We have since invited him to the school to explain what our aims and objectives are.
We also contacted IMC with regard to their continued use of plastic straws. We are delighted with their reply. Hopefully our 'gentle push' has made them rethink their straw orders for the future!!
Our parents association and B.O.M have also come back to us to state that they would be delighted to support and encourage any and all initiatives.
