Jotunrime is a landscape of sweeping magnitude and frozen extremes. A place of harsh winds, scarcity, dangerous beasts and ancient mysteries sealed away beneath miles deep ice. Yet, the people who call this harsh place their home are filled with laughter, life and generous hospitality.
Many communities follow the same routes year to year, migrating along with generational herds that they manage. Without fail each community meets another at least once every two years along their routes - an opportunity to celebrate, intermarry, share stories and spread information.
It is shared among the Skald that the deeper you travel into Jotunrime, the darker the world becomes until you are eventually cloaked in near eternal night, the light of the sun only breaking the horizon for the briefest of moments. They say that it is in these darkest of places that you can hear the breath of the world itself.
During the winter months, the sea ice extends and creates an ice bridge. The Jotunrime then travel to the ‘mainland’ and inhabit their seasonal camps, moving from place to place and harvesting from the milder climate. They are renowned artisans, and storytellers. The sight of the Jotunrime may be met initially with trepidation but so long as neither party is aggrieved by the other in the past, they are quick to invite others to share a drink and meal, and stories of the goings on of the last year and what is to come.
The Skald

The role of the Skald is one which is venerated among the Jotunrime. To become one is to not idolize and recite the tales of old, but to spin the tales of new. An emphasis is made on creating new stories, new parables, texts and goods. For it is every Skald's responsibility to prepare for the next generation to inherit, and to leave them the best of what there is. There can be many Skalds, and indeed the more that are in a place the better - for it is through their counsel, debate and celebration that the people are uplifted.

Far-rider
Trait: Ambush
Far-riders are the scouts, and tend to be most adventurous of the jotun. When the sea ice is first formed, they are quick to forge ahead each year and plot the safest routes for their people to cross the flows on. They move ahead of their people, preparing camps, identifying trade partners and assessing threats which may be new from the last year's journey.
