Within my current practice, I was involved in the difficult but important decision of selecting which electronic health record (EHR) system our organization would implement. Because we are a small healthcare business, our primary goals were to choose a system that is both effective and efficient while remaining mindful of cost. Unlike large hospitals, which can afford to implement high-cost EHR systems with virtually unlimited resources, smaller practices must carefully weigh features, usability, and long-term expenses.
After comparing several options, our team was able to make a decision on which EHR system we would utilize in practice. Although it was not the most affordable option on the market, it offered great tools and resources for our needs. enabling us to streamline workflows, improve documentation accuracy, and enhance coordination of care for our patients. Benefits that, in the long run, outweigh the higher upfront cost.
Being part of this decision-making process helped me better understand the operational side of healthcare and the importance of aligning technology with clinical goals. It also reinforced how important it is for healthcare workers to have a voice in selecting tools that directly affect patient care and daily workflow.
