After completing an Aboriginal Child Development Practitioner (620B) or Child Development Practitioner (620C) Certificate of Apprenticeship, the journeyperson can then register for other course and practical requirements that are needed to earn an Early Childhood Education Diploma. This is called bridging. While ECE is not an apprenticeship, it is an in-demand career in our region.
Also closely related to this group are the following in-demand trades:
Child and Youth Workers (620A) strive to improve the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of troubled children and adolescents.
Developmental Services Workers (620D) support people with a developmental disability, helping to enhance their capacity to function in all aspects of community living and support the full inclusion of Ontarians with disabilities in all aspects of society.
Note: Developmental Service Workers and Child and Youth Workers share the same NOC (42201), which covers a number of careers that are not designated trades (such as Addictions Worker or Social Services worker). As such, job profiles and wage ranges may not accurately reflect these specific trades.
Educational Assistants (620E) support students’ educational goals under the direction of the teacher and work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to support teacher/team developed goals, instructions, and activities in a school setting.
Note: As 620A-620E are all non-compulsory trades, potential apprentices may experience difficulty finding a sponsor. Employer preferences will depend on the specific hiring needs and expectations of the organization. Potential apprentices seeking hands-on learning opportunities may consider seeking a college program with co-op opportunities.
