Project Proposal
For the project proposal slides you see below, I deliberately made them quite condensed. This was because when I was presenting this slide to my tutors and peers I didn't want to just appear to be reading off a screen. Because of this, I made a note at the start of each section just saying what exactly I covered in the presentation itself.
In this section I reflected on, reviewed and summarised my progress and achievements during the first 12 units including knowledge, skills, understanding, what I know now and what it means to me compared with what I knew and could before starting this course and how it has influenced my choice of discipline(s), my project proposal, my reasons for choosing a particular discipline(s) and my immediate and long-term aspirations.
In this section I explained the concept and aims of my project, production or performance and the research and ideas that will support its development. I spoke about what I anticipate producing, the levels and types of resources that I will need, an indication of the form in which I will complete and present my final realisation within the allocated timescale, when and how I will use studios, equipment and other resources, how I will make use of tutorial and peer feedback and where I will incorporate independent study.
In this section I explained how I will reflect on and evaluate my work as both an ongoing activity and at the conclusion of my project. I described how I intend to record my decision-making and how I will document changes to my ideas as my work progresses.
In this section I outlined planning and organisation over a period of weeks and the activities that I will need to carry out in order to successfully complete my project in the agreed time frame. I considered how I will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project, what I am going to do, how I will do it and by when I will do it.
I also included time spent sourcing materials and other resources to conduct research, seeking feedback from tutors and peers, identifying when I will carry out independent study and how I will self motivate.
Finally, in section 5 I talked about how I would record initial research sources, both primary and secondary, that I intend to use. Use as many sources as possible - books, films, magazines, games, websites, blogs, radio programmes, archival material etc. I also mentioned using the Harvard system where appropriate.

Covers the essentials of 3D printing - materials, software, modelling etc.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths - Positive attributes, within your control and areas you feel you are confident and comfortable in. For example, software skills, idea development, working with audio
Blender - I've been working on Blender for about a year and a half now, and is definitely my speciality. I love working in it which gives me good motivation for the production side of a project.
3D Printing - Although I have limited experience with 3D printing, I have a good foundational understanding which I can easily build on through research and also use to problem solve throughout the project.
Ambition - I always want to try and impress people with my skills in Blender as it will not only help me get some good grades, but also being ambitious means I can experiment with new things in Blender, maybe a new tool or modelling technique etc.
Weaknesses - Factors that detract from your ability to attain the desired goal, Which areas might you look to improve? For example, software confidence, written work.
Time management
Motivation - I tend to really enjoy small projects, something like 3D printing a Pokémon character and painting it, all in the space of one evening. I like doing these because I very often change my mind on what I want to do. A weakness for me is my lack of motivation over a long amount of time.
Lack of urgency - With the project being 13 weeks long, it's very easy in the early phases to not feel any urgency and sort of just lie around not really doing much. This is something I'll definitely have to overcome in order to complete the project on time and get a good result.
Too impatient and want to get straight to production - I really enjoy the technical work and problem solving in Blender and 3D printing which means I can often tend to rush the research and other earlier, written phases of the project.
Opportunities - Areas of this project that can benefit your personal and professional development, How will this project potentially help you on your longer-term journey? For example, portfolio development.
Portfolio development
Broadening my skills in 3D - Although 3D printing is something I have a limited amount of experience in, it will be good to spend a whole college project, 13 weeks, on just 3D printing. It will provide me with a good amount of experience, as well as helping me to broaden potential career opportunities in the future.
Something new to me - Whether I make a zoetrope or a lightbox, both are completely new to me. They'll allow me to explore new areas of the 3D industry and encounter new problems which I am really looking forward to.
Threats - Factors which could place the project at risk. You may benefit by having contingency plans to address them if they should occur, For example, 6 week timeframe of the project
Time - Making the product will be fairly simple, however I will want to make it more complex, so the time frame might be a bit of a threat. One way I could overcome this is by making the project something simple at the start - if a zoetrope, a simple looping animation - and then developing it later on, making it more complex - if a zoetrope, experimenting with animation multiplexing and maybe adding other characters etc.
