Initial ideas for FMP
Idea
What to research
Refining the idea
General - 3D Model Designing and Printing & Painting
Process of designing a character from start to finish
General - Physical Media
Idea 1 - Continuation of previous Biblical Bookends
Idea 2 - Home Decor (faux plants, vases, lamps etc)
Interior Design
What makes an interior aesthetically pleasing
How colours work together in an interior
Idea 3 - Vinyl Figure(s)
The making of
History
Psychology behind having a real, physical figure instead of a digital image
Could experiment with making figures in varying art styles - low poly, cartoon, chibi etc. Would also be a good opportunity to work with printing pieces so that they fit together.
Idea 4 - Zoetrope
The making of
History
Zoetropes used in films (Toy Story)
'Zoetrope makers'
Could also make something similar to a zoetrope, for example a praxinoscope. Still a Victorian era animation toy, and creates an illusion of movement using only still images without having to be sat in front of a screen to enjoy it.

Video Essays
https://youtu.be/6ecTO22ulRM?si=hPfCSspzJzD6Duei "Animation Before Computers"
Subject matter
This video covers the history of animation, looking at some of the earliest animations, the processes behind it and how animation has changed through time. The video also shows how the processes work to such detail that one could even give one of these animation styles a go.
Production Values
The video is well produced too. The audio is crisp and very easy to understand, the video itself is smooth, there are many different aesthetic components to look at including diagrams and illustrations, in some cases some real images or videos, of the different animation processes which help the viewer have a greater understanding about the subject matter. Despite the content being highly academic and insightful, the video is still an easy watch, and easy to follow along, and even funny in some places.
Academic Content
It informed the viewer about different types of animation, how they were used and the process of them, without throwing too much overwhelming information at the viewer. The video gives a good insight into the history of animation and how it progressed through time. It also gives a good insight into the processes of different animation types - flipbooks, zoetropes, stop motion and cell sheet animation.
Key Takeaway Messages
Crisp audio and being an entertaining, maybe even slightly funny narrator will be key to keeping the audience hooked.
https://youtu.be/oZlFJNinK9c?si=bXpOj7ZqI2uE9Ftm "Every form of animation"
Subject matter
This video focusses mainly on the history of animation, major events and turning points. Although it was made by the same person as the previous video I wrote about, they tackle different subject matters.
Production Values
The video is narrate by an animated character, which links very well to the subject matter. It is well produced, the audio is crisp and very easy to understand, the video itself is smooth and there are many different aesthetic components to look at, e.g. different backgrounds where the animated character is narrating from, different animation studios or their work and even some variations in the narrating animated character.
Academic Content
This video gave an insight into the history of animation, rather than covering how to do different types of animation. It covered how animation developed over time, how animation went from cartoon-ish unrealistic movements in characters to more realistic movements, the introduction of computers in animation, the background to big animation studios like Pixar, how some animation styles work and examples of them too.
Key Takeaway Messages
Having a good understanding, as well as a real interest in the subject matter will make a huge difference. Being able to take a lot of information about the history of a subject, as well as info on how one might go about practicing the subject matter without shoving too much information in your face and therefore being overwhelming for the viewer, will also be crucial.
