Target Audience Project
Brief
Research
Exploring Activision / Blizzard Media Advertising Data
Why have they released this information?
To target potential advertisers.
They have included stats like;
66% of players in the U.S. play on multiple platforms - advertisers have a possibility to advertise to multiple platforms - wider range of potential customers
Players like ads to be rewarded - suddenly players may even choose to watch an ad if it means they will be rewarded - higher chance of them paying attention to the ad itself
4.3x greater ad recall than other digital publishers - Blizzard Media are obviously very good at advertising - potential advertisers have a better chance at getting new customers with Blizzard than any other publisher, supposedly.
All these stats are gold to potential advertisers.
What can I learn from this resource?
They didn't reference the race / sex / age of their users. Likely that they would only reveal that information to an advertiser.
Exploring YouGov Data
Type of data available
Both demographic and psychographic information is available. You are able to find out on a specific audience based on one piece of demographic and one piece of psychographic information.
In the top left you can see what audience I searched for, and YouGov then provided me with more information on that audience, things like their attitude towards advertising, where they are mostly from etc.
Exploring Ipsos
Ipsos gathers data via online surveys, face to face meetings and phone calls.
Their team is specialised in survey design as well as data collection and delivery.
On this particular site, Ipsos did research into 'The Value of Mobile Gamers.' These are my findings;
The likes of Meghan Trainor and Erling Haaland have started branching out into the mobile gaming world, with Meghan Trainor releasing one of her music videos exclusively on Candy Crush for the first 24 hours, and Erling Haaland becoming the first real life person to be in Clash of Clans.
Here they cover the revenue of worldwide gaming, with the darker areas representing income from mobile games, and the lighter area representing income from console games.
Consoles still account for the largest amount of total time spent gaming, however mobile gaming's share has risen from 18% in 2012 to 33% in 2023.
In 2012 mobile gaming brought in £200m, whereas in 2023 it brought in £2bn, a tenfold increase.
Below are some more examples of the information available on this website
NRS Social Grading
The NRS Social Grade is a classification system based on occupation not income, wealth or property ownership. People are split into groups A, B, C1, C2, D and E, often simplified to ABC1 and C2DE.
I personally think this system can be useful, but it does feel a bit 'wrong.' I hate making people seem more important just because when they open their banking app there is a bigger number there than there is with other people.
However it could be interesting to see different responses to questions from people in different groups. You would expect the people in the A or B classes to be very disciplined and hard working, and maybe you would notice a decline in that the further down the list you go.
Social Media Algorithms
The social media advertising industry is worth $185bn as of 2024. A lot of this income will come from social platforms your selling data to sell targeted advertising. They collect information on your interests, demographics and online behaviour. With this information they are able to show ads that are more suited to you as a person.
Instagram provides a business / creator account with new insights inaccessible to normal accounts. These stats provide the user with access to information on;
Most viewed posts and stories
Engagement rate on posts
Where their followers are from
What time of day their followers are most active
How many different accounts they are reaching
This is an example of some of the stats you would see as a business account
I have a lot of experience with posting content on Instagram. I spent around 4.5 years building up a page about the late F1 driver, Ayrton Senna. I also used to run another account for around 2 years which focused on general F1 content, so that I wasn't restricted to making content about just 1 driver. This is a brief overview of what I learned about optimizing the algorithm;
Posting 1-3 times a day, every day
Posting stories at least once a day, every day
Post reels at least twice a week - if they were posted too much then they would take over the account and effectively monopolize performance from regular posts
The more interaction you can get with people, the more the algorithm will favour you
Content that anyone can understand is infinitely better than really niche content (i.e. very specific facts)
Re-posting content that has been a big hit in the past but hasn't been posted in a while almost always performs incredibly well
The algorithm also works to provide you with content that you want to see. I learned that by liking posts that you were interested in, you would very quickly start to see more posts of the same subject. It also even takes into account posts that you have clicked on from the explore page, even if you haven't interacted with the post.
Target Audience Research
Demographics (statistics that describe populations and their characteristics, e.g. age, race, sex) and Psychographics (Psychological characteristics e.g. values, interests, lifestyle choices)
Although target audience is very small, I still wanted to look through the YouGOV website to see if there was anything there.
For the following images, I searched for an audience in the UK with an attitude of "There is only one religion"
For the following images, I searched for an audience in the UK with an attitude of "I participate in my religion at every opportunity"
As Christadelphians are a fairly small denomination of Christianity, as I expected there was little to no info available via secondary sources. So, I decided to create a question form which asked questions to gain info on the demographics (and psychographics) of Christadelphians. Below is the link to my findings laid out on a Google Sheets file;
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gKIu1zEw7ijaInw2hg_76hqhYLqHcGQreO0t-8eCUv4/edit?usp=sharing
Behaviours
One thing that separates Christadelphians from the mainstream Christianity groups, is that they do a lot of their own personal Bible study, and really try to find out what the message of the Bible exactly is. Unfortunately, a lot of other Christians go in with pre-conceived ideas, and they will try and find verses they can use to prove these theories they have. Christadelphians however simply study the Bible and take it as it is, and if they get stuck on something they ask their friends and family and search for the answer.
Christadelphians also make a real effort to read their Bibles daily. Often they will follow a readings plan in which we are told 3 passages we can read (2 from the Old Testament and 1 from the New Testament). Others like to do their own self-directed study. Often, they will have a book alongside them to help them study the passage of the Bible they are reading, or sometimes they just read books when not reading the Bible just to learn more about something. Very often too, when I've been round to other Christadelphians houses they will have a bookshelf or two in the living room, with some even having their own libraries in their houses. In short, Christadelphians are big readers.
Beliefs
Christadelphians take the Bible as it is, and base all of their beliefs on it. Because of this, Christadelphians are active Bible studiers, with most of them opening their Bible at least once a day, typically following the daily readings plan made by Robert Roberts - one of the most important people with starting up the Christadelphians.
Christadelphians have differing beliefs to those of the other mainstream Christian churches. They do not believe in the trinity, a supernatural devil or the idea of substitution. Here's why;
Trinity
Christadelphians arguments for why they do not believe in the doctrine of the trinity is that God's plan and purpose for the world was to ultimately redeem it, make it perfect again, a world without sin. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3) the dying process started within them, and from them, every human has inherited mortality and sinful nature (Romans 5:12). So everyone who ever lived has had sinful nature and mortality, meaning that eventually they would die. The reason Jesus was sent into this world was to put sin's nature to death (Genesis 3:15) so that - if we associate ourselves with his death and resurrection through baptism - we can also be saved (Romans 6). We know that God cannot sin (James 1:13) and also that no man can see God an live (Exodus 33:20), so if Jesus Christ was God, then he achieved nothing in his death meaning that God's entire plan and purpose is void, and also everyone who saw him would've died there and then.
Supernatural Devil
The Churches' idea of a supernatural devil is believed to be a fallen angel. They get this idea from Isaiah 14:12, however we know that this verse isn't talking about a fallen angel because, if we read in context, we know that this is actually talking about the King of Babylon (Isaiah 14:4). This also lines up with the book of Daniel and his prophecies, mainly Daniel 4:25, Daniel 4:33.
Revelation 12 is also used to backup the idea of a devil, mainly the big red beast. However we know that this is the same beast from Daniel 7, and that this beast is actually a prophetic symbol for Rome (makes sense as Revelation is not a literal book, but a prophetic one filled with symbology).
The idea of a devil also undermines God's power. Any principle built from the Bible must uphold God's power, as we know that He is an all powerful God. The Churches argue that when Jesus Christ was crucified he was paying a debt. If we also think that Christ was God, then they are saying that God owed a debt. To who? A supernatural devil? Doesn't sound like God is all powerful if that principle is true.
Substitution
The Churches' idea of substitution is this - Jesus Christ dies instead of us, meaning that he took the punishment for everyone's sins. If he died instead of us, then how come people still die? And if Jesus did really take all the punishment for everyone's sins, then everyone was redeemed... for 3 days. On the third day we know for a fact that Jesus rose from the dead (confirmed by Biblical accounts as well as numerous historians - there is no dispute over the fact that Jesus Christ was a real man and rose from the dead), and therefore would've cheated everyone out of eternal salvation. And if Jesus really did take the punishment for everyone's sins, then surely we can just go and do whatever we want without any consequences. Well that completely goes against what Romans 6:1 says.
Christadelphians instead believe the doctrine of representation, that Jesus didn't die instead of everyone, but for everyone. Jesus was the only perfect and sinless man to ever live and put sin's nature to death every day. God cannot righteously look at us and our sins and say "I'm not going to hold that against you, or you, or you", because we are sinners and have sinful nature. If He did do that, then it would not uphold Him being righteous and just. Instead, God can forgive us our sins and are saved through identification with Jesus Christ, in that we recognise that we need to put this sinful body to death, which we do symbolically through baptism - putting sinful nature to death, and being raised to a newness of life (Romans 6:4).
Ideas
Initial Ideas
My initial idea is to do make a product for Christadelphians (Christian denomination), as I myself am one. This would give me a chance to develop myself in my own personal life as a person, while also getting to challenge myself by making a product I have never experimented with before.
Bookends - A lot of Christadelphians are big on reading, so this is something that would definitely appeal to that audience. Whether it would appeal to an older audience, a younger audience or both, I don't know. This would also give me a chance to make a scene from a famous Bible story, which would allow me to develop my skills in creating environments and character design.
My initial ideas so far for a set of Biblical scene bookends are;
- Moses and the parting of the red sea
- Tabernacle
- Verse art (e.g. a hand throwing dice - "We may throw the dice but the LORD determines how they fall." Proverbs 16:33 NLT)
- A bookend of an open Bible (each bookend would have one half of the bible on it) and on both pages would be a verse
- Ezekiel 41:18-19
- One bookend has a 3D model of something on it, and the other has another e.g. Ark of the Covenant on one, and a Scroll on the other
Poster - I love making stuff in 3D, and if I were to make a poster it would give me the freedom of being able to make a scene in 3D and effectively being able to do whatever I want. I could also add a Bible verse on the poster as this would have to make me think about colour choices and the composition of the overall image.
Summary Posters - Having a poster showing the main characters from each book of the Bible could be a great way to get the Bible into people's daily life while also being an aesthetic addition to a room.
Bookends
This particular bookend fascinates me, as the bookend itself is placed inside the book, and then the superhero has a magnet in its hands, which is how its able to give the illusion of holding the books up.
One thing I noticed with this particular set of bookends is how important it can be to have the subject split in half, but have the top at the same height. This means that no matter how far apart the two bookends are, it will still look 'right.'
I made an example in Photoshop of what I'm trying to get at
Over the Christmas holidays, I briefly looked at 3d printed bookends. I looked at some videos on YouTube, and I noticed there were a few things I hadn't considered;
Problems
How to stop the bookend from sliding
How to keep the books close to the bookend
Solutions
Something I saw someone do in a video I saw was get some little pieces of rubber, and stick them on the bottom of the bookend. That way the PLA won't be sliding all over the bookshelves. https://youtube.com/shorts/T5wcuzzeKcI?si=Da7Wj7ysA1j0WorF
I'm hoping the image below shows what I mean. By adding this little lip (circled in red), the bookend and books will be able to say close together.
Posters
As I said above, I love just making things in 3D, so making a poster gives me an excuse to make another scene in 3D. A poster, I feel, would also be a great way to get the Bible into people's daily lives more and get them excited about it, they could have a poster about their favourite story, or a poster with their favourite Bible verse on it - a really easy way to get the Bible into your daily life.
The good thing about making a poster is I won't have to worry about animating anything, nor will I have to worry about how the pieces will 3D print (like I would with the bookends), which means I would be able to focus more on the actual product itself and how aesthetically pleasing it is.
Summary Posters
These would be different to the previous poster idea I discussed, as these would be a more informative, infographic type of poster. This idea was inspired by the Bible Project summary videos, here is an example;
The posters go through each book of the Bible and give an overview of their message, helping the reader to understand the key themes in each book. Making something similar to this would not only be a great way to get the Bible into people's daily lives more, but also to help them understand it better.
Art Styles
Low-Poly
I came across this particular style of art while watching a video by the Bible Project on YouTube. Below are some photos that show this art style.

Loose Script
(Slide 1) In terms of academic life... Talk about how I want a broad skillset in 3D, and character and environment design are 2 aspects of 3D design that I haven't properly touched on. Talk about the other bullet points too.
In terms of personal life... I wanted to read my Bible more frequently again, so this project is also helping me in my own personal life, away from college.
I've always been interested in the idea of creating art based on the Bible, and this project finally gives me a really good opportunity to do that.
(Slide 2) Short intro. Brief overview of Christadelphians - roughly 50,000 of them, many Christadelphians read (have a book alongside them to help them study the Bible).
Go more in depth with my specific chosen audience.
(Slide 3) Explain that I made a question form for Christadelphians to fill out, I got 52 responses and these are all the responses from 16-19 year olds. Anything highlighted in blue is evidence that they want to get the Bible into their daily life more. Anything highlighted in orange is evidence that they have an interest in reading.
Talk about how some people had an interest in things such as baking, painting etc - suggests creativity, so my product would tie in with that too.
(Slide 4) Explain how these both give me interaction with my audience - can ask questions directly, get involved in conversations with them etc. Group chats allow me to ask the same questions but to a much wider audience.
(Slide 5) Explain what bookends are. Say that I want to experiment with character design and environment design, as well as a low poly art style which will help me develop my skills in my academic life. Talk about the example images on the right.
(Slide 6) Discuss Bible Scenes idea. Could be cool to bring some of the stories to life - I often struggle to be excited or realise the reality of a scene in the Bible, so bringing some scenes to life could be fun.
(Slide 7) Discuss Biblical Objects idea. Similar to the Bible Scenes idea - would help bring the Bible to life and could be interesting to see how things may have actually looked.
(Slide 8) Discuss Bible Verse Art idea. Allows me to try slightly more abstract ideas. Would have the verse written on the bookends - still gets the Bible into people's every day life while also being a fun, aesthetic ornament.
(Slide 9) Go more in-depth as to what you will be doing in those weeks during research and production.
Project Pitch Video (and Production Schedule)
Peer Feedback
These are the feedback forms I received in response to my project pitch, product idea and target audience research.
Overall the feedback was very positive. The only thing I could've improved on, according to these forms, was speaking a little bit slower. Everyone seemed to think my ideas were good, linked back to my audience and very importantly that I was able to have good communication with my audience.
3D Printing and Painting Practice
On the week of the 2nd December, I started making a model of a Kia Niro for my brother as a birthday gift for him. I also saw this as a good time to experiment with actually making an accurate 3D model of something by sanding and painting it. So, I sent an STL file to my friend, and he did a couple of prints. This was my first time trying something like this, and I used it as something to gain experience for this college project, to refine my skills before I come to printing and painting my bookends.
Attempt 1
1 - This is when the car was first printed, and you can see it next to the digital model
2 - Now onto the beginning of the painting process. I started off by sanding the car down to make it smoother. When the model was first printed, because the printer prints in layers, there were some rough surfaces. I've provided an imgae on the right to show what it looked like at first.
3 - I covered the now sanded model with a coat of primer. Primer gives the paint something to sticks to. As the base model was also a black colour, by adding a coat of white primer it meant that the colour wouldn't become darker due to the black PLA (material used by the 3D printer).
4 - Once the primer had set, I added the first coat of paint.
5 - Aaand another.
6 - I then used some duct tape to mask off areas surrounding the windows to allow me to paint the windows black.
I noticed though that, after I had pulled the tape off, that some of the paint had come off too which is not ideal. Thankfully though I had another print which I could paint.
Attempt 2
One thing that I noticed with the first attempt was that I didn't let the paint dry for long enough, so it was still wet when I was painting, and also there weren't enough coats of paint. So, before I'd even started painting the 2nd print I decided to make sure I'd leave the paint to dry for longer, and paint more than 2 coats of paint. I also decided to paint this 2nd attempt grey, as this is a mini project I'm doing for my brother, and his future car will be grey. I also decided this time not to use any primer, as I found out that painting straight onto the PLA worked absolutely fine, maybe even better than with primer (weirdly).
Unfortunately I got a bit carried away with this, and forgot to take photos during the painting process. However the process was fairly similar to the previous one and you can see that this attempt was far better, which I shall now go into;
1 - The model started off exactly the same, only this time it was in 2 parts, as we tried to to print the car in a different way to see if we could get better details.
2 - This time I didn't sand the car down. This was mainly because I forgot to, but also it didn't need sanding down anyway.
3 - This time, I didn't cover the model with a coat of primer. I started off by painting the whole thing grey. I deliberately didn't try to paint the windows, however some paint still landed on them.
4 - After I had added a couple of layers of paint to the model, I then masked out the windows with some Tamiya masking tape. This was a lot softer than the previous tape I used, so I didn't end up ripping off a few layers of paint thankfully.
Sadly though, masking isn't perfect, and I still had to go over the imperfections with a steady hand. On the left you can see what it looks like before I've corrected the imperfections, and on the right is an example of what it looks like after.
Production
For my product I chose to do the bookends idea. This is a project I've been interested in doing for a while, and other Christadelphians like the idea too, with a few of them even giving me their own ideas for bookends. As I've discussed already, Christadelphians are big on reading, and these bookends would be a great aesthetic, as well as functional addition to a bookshelf. As I discussed in my project pitch, I came to theh conclusion of bookends due to noticing two main things;
Christadelphians want to get the Bible into their daily life more
Christadelphians enjoy reading a lot
Anything highlighted in orange is evidence for Christadelphians enjoying reading, and anything in blue is evidence for them wanting to get the Bible into their daily life more.
Contact with Audience during Production
Since starting production, I've been asking people what they think of my Biblical Bookend idea, and the responses have been very positive. Everyone I've spoken to has liked the idea, with one or two even asking for their own.
One friend I spoke to, Noah, said that he would like a bookend with David and Goliath on it (1Samuel 17)
Another friend I spoke to, Kez, said that she would like a bookend with a pillar of cloud on one bookend, and a pillar of fire on the other (Exodus 13:20-22)
I asked a Bible Discussion group chat on WhatsApp if they liked the idea of a Biblical bookend, and what Biblical Scenes people would be interested in having on a bookend. The 2 green boxes on the left below are my messages, and the others are all responses.
The first bookend I decided to start working on was a bookend with a scene of Jesus stood on a mountain teaching, with 2 people sat down listening to him. Below is a photo of a rough idea of what it will look like.
This is a base model which I will use for all my characters. I was helped a lot by this video: https://youtu.be/AVkXy62V77E?si=1yECscEGJYH4TZcO
I wanted to do my characters in the low-poly art style inspired by this Bible Project video; https://youtu.be/NtKb7CJDUZc?si=c_bF6gVcwIGbZWPZ&t=234
When it came to actually making the characters, I just copied some reference images into the blender scene and traced them. When I was finished modelling the character, I added an armature. I then parented the character mesh to the armature with automatic weights, which now means that I can move the individual bones in an armature, which changes the position of the character. In the image on the right you can see the base model. In the top left you can see some characters I posed, using the armature, and I show how the armature works in the bottom left image.
This is the terrain for this particular bookend. I used the A.N.T Landscape add-on in blender to automatically generate a landscape for me, and I then effectively traced over it with a low-poly mesh. This helped speed up the process a lot, and I'm really pleased with the outcome. In the video linked below, you can see how I 'traced' the original landscape; 2025-01-16 13-59-00.mp4
I also had to make sure that this terrain mesh fit inside the actual bookend holder (next image below). So, I placed the terrain mesh into the bookend, and then used a boolean modifier to effectively subtract the bookend from the terrain.
This is the bookend itself. One problem I've still got is trying to figure out a way to weight it when I come to 3D print it. I have had a couple of ideas though;
Make a hole in the bookend, leaving enough room for a weight, or sand
Place a weight under the landscape on the bookend, and then glue the landscape on top
Make a hole in the landscape and then fill it with sand
Characters
Side note: For all of my character designs, I removed some of the topology from the original model. On the left is the original model, and on the right is the altered model. I prefer this a lot more to the original model, as it is even simpler and minimalistic, making it more aesthetically pleasing.
For my character designs, I took inspiration from The Chosen, a TV series about the life of Jesus.
This is the design I came up with for Jesus. I wanted to make him easily identifiable to potential buyers, and what makes him easily recognisable is his long hair and beard, so I used this video to help me learn how to design low-poly hair;
Another thing which makes him recognisable is his long robe that he wears, and I took inspiration of this from this image from The Chosen.
I made a note of the long sleeves with my design. Although he is wearing a blue scarf-like piece of clothing, I did experiment with this, but I didn't like how it looked. What I did like however was the small addition of the brown belt, however I didn't use it in my design as it would be very tricky to 3D print. When I come to 3D printing, I may add a rubber band around the waist instead.
I also had to prepare the 3D models for 3D printing, which I did by adding these little gaps and 'tabs.' I did this so that all the pieces that are different colours print separately, which makes painting in real life a lot easier. This is a process I did for all my characters.
Here you can see the tabs and gaps I put in the model. This means that I can paint each piece separately when 3D printed without having to use masking tape, or run the risk of accidentally mixing colours. Once the paint has dried, I'll be able to stick the model together.
My inspiration for this character came from Simon (also called Peter) in The Chosen. I wanted to experiment with different clothes as well as hair styles, so decided to try and copy the look of Simon Peter. I also decided to make this character more buff, as I wanted to experiment with designing different body types.
The inspiration for this character was again from The Chosen, this time from the character of Mary Magdalene.
Something I made a note of was the head covering. In The Chosen, all the female characters wear head coverings, so I made sure to add this accessory to make this character easily recognisable as a woman.
This is the final design, with all the characters put together and on the landscape. Below I have added a photo of what this product could look like in real life on a bookshelf.
Evaluation
26/11 - Today was the first day of the project. I'm excited to take on this new project as it is very open which means that I get to use Blender again. However I still want to develop my skills in Blender and try something slightly different. At the moment I am thinking of making a product that involves both character and environment design, as these are probably 2 of my weakest areas in 3D.
04/12 - So far I'm really happy with how the project is going. My research has been good (as I managed to engage directly with my audience by sending out a question form with questions specific to this project). However I still think it would be good for me to do some research online, just to show that I have looked at multiple research techniques and sources.
I've also started writing up my script for my product pitch, and going through it I am really pleased with how well I think my product links to my audiences needs. The only thing that slightly worries me is that the product itself isn't something that anyone specifically said they wanted. However I focussed more on the reasons why they would have wanted whatever product they said, and then decided to make something based on that which meets my audiences needs, helps me in my personal life, and also allows me to explore different areas of 3D design to help me progress in my academic life.
Overall, I'm really happy with how today went - I managed to complete my presentation, as well as my notes for it. I feel confident going into recording my pitch.
19/12 - I noticed recently that I had almost neglected all the written work. So today I went back and set my attention on writing. I carried on talking about my attempts with painting the 3D printed car and the problems I ran into with it and what I learned.
I am also behind with production of the actual product itself. However yesterday I managed to start making a bookend with a small environment, and some characters in their own poses. I'm really happy with how it looks so far and am excited to get it printed. Most likely I will end up working on this project over the Christmas holidays as I'm eager to turn this digital render into a real product.
08/01/2025 - First day back after the Christmas holidays. During the holidays, I didn't do hardly any work on this project. However, I still made sure to ask people about my project, and I'm very pleased that everyone was a fan of the idea. I also did a mock-up render of a bookend I'm currently working on - it has a scene of Jesus stood on a mountain, preaching to people who are sat down on rocks listening to him.
Character Design
I noticed with the characters I'd designed, that the armature would often mess up the mesh of the character, which wasn't ideal. So I had to go back and alter the meshes individually, but the characters still looked a bit messy. I decided to simplify the mesh and remove some unnecessary lines, and the result is so much better than the previous design I had. I talked about this in my production phase, but I think that the new character design is a lot more aesthetically pleasing and will appeal to more people.
As I'm going to be eventually 3D printing this, I had to prepare the models for 3D printing, which meant I had to experiment with creating holes and little 'tabs' on the models, so that they could all stick together. It's basically impossible to know whether or not this worked until I 3D print them. My 3D printer only arrived on the last Friday of this project, meaning I have Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday to set up a 3D Printer, figure out how to print something, then correct any imperfections and paint it, on top of seeing family and friends, Bible Study events and Church on a Sunday. So it's unlikely that I'll be able to get a finished bookend before the deadline, but I'm hoping that all the work I've evidenced will show that I have at least given a lot of thought into it, and I've tried to prepare the physical side of this project as best I can.
16/01 - Today I made some finishing touches to the project, and now it's finally complete. Like I said above, I likely won't be able to have a completed 3D printed model before the end of this project, but I've still got renders to show what it will look like on a bookshelf.
Personal Development Journal
26/11 - Today was the first day of the project. I'm excited to take on this new project as it is very open which means that I have an opportunity to use Blender again. It will provide me with a good opportunity to work on myself as a person in my own personal life, focussing on the Word of God, while also exploring new areas in 3D, helping me to develop my skills in college life.
In terms of what I'm looking to get out of this project in personal skills, I'm hoping to come out the other end as a person more open to different ideas.
I'm also pretty terrified of the upcoming pitch that we all have to do. The main reason I am scared for this is not because of standing up in front of a big group of people, but it means everyone looking at and listening to me talking about my religion for a few minutes. It's sometimes quite scary being the only Christadelphian in a place as you don't have anyone else who can relate to you or fall back on. So I'm hoping that this will be a good chance for me to become more comfortable with talking about my beliefs with people.
03/12 - Today I started making my google slides for my project pitch. I've chosen to do this as a video submission instead of delivering it to everyone in person. I've made this choice for a number of reasons;
Speaking in front of large groups of people is one of my biggest fears
I'm very wary of talking about my beliefs to a big group of people (and what they may be thinking), and that is also a pretty big fear of mine
So combining those two into one for me is a nightmare.
However, I know that if I record my pitch in advance, I won't have the pressure of having everyone looking at me which means I will be able to convey my idea as it is, rather than trying to cut corners or miss out certain details if I was doing it in person because of feeling anxious.
05/12 - Today we pitched our project ideas to the room. Even though I did mine as a video submission, I am really happy with how it went. My tutor was pleased with what I said and how thorough and clear I was on my product and audience. I feel like I went through everything thoroughly and made it clear where I had got this idea from, what the ideas were and how I was going to address my target audiences needs.
18/12 - I noticed today that I hadn't been doing as much work as I needed to, which was a bit de-motivating as I feel I have been doing really well at college recently. However today I started properly getting to work on the 3D design of the bookends. I made a small environment and set up some characters to form one bookend. It's still a work in progress but I am really happy with how it is all coming along, and it's extremely motivating to see it all start to come together, which has definitely given me a boost to work harder for this project.
08/01/2025 - First day back after the Christmas holidays. I'm feeling confident that I will be able to finish this project on time. I bought a 3D printer over the holidays, so I'm hoping to be able to make these bookends into real objects. However, it is unlikely that I'll finalise a set of bookends in the timeframe of this project, so instead I'll just do my best to make some renders and 3D ready-to-print models and files.
Looking back at the comments I made on 03/12, I've noticed that I am becoming slightly more confident in talking about my beliefs to people. This has been helped by some people in my class taking an interest in what I've been saying and asking me questions.
17/01 - Today marks the end of this project for me. I really enjoyed this project, it really helped me get back on track with religious life, as well as learning some new skills in the process. I learned about character modelling, armatures, preparing models for 3D printing, environment design, and character design. This project was a really fun challenge, and one that will definitely be a good foundation for future endeavours in the 3D industry.
The main goal of this project was to get back on track in religious life with reading my Bible more consistently and focussing on working on myself as a person, and helping others in their own lives too in an act of giving them a gift in the form of a bookend. This was also a preaching effort, an attempt to spread my beliefs to people at college, whether they be classmates or my tutors. Matthew 5:14-16
I watched myself grow a lot as a person during this project, and I hope that this project and the final product will help fellow believers in their personal lives too.
Of course, I also developed my skills in 3D, exploring a new area I had been too scared to touch on beforehand - character modelling. It was a really fun challenge and definitely something I would be open to working on again in the future, and was not as scary as I thought it might have been at first.
Overall, I think this project was a success - it got me talking more about my beliefs, got my religious life back on track and I was able to explore new areas in 3D, so it helped with my academic life too.
