The 16th Annual Congress of Asia-Pacific Laser Institute was hosted by Taiwan World Clinical Laser Society
The Asia Pacific Laser Institute (APLI), the most influential laser medicine society in Asia, held the 2022 World Laser Medicine Congress and the 16th Annual Meeting at the Taipei Sky Hotel from October 28th to 30th. Over forty world-renowned laser medicine experts were invited as speakers, and in addition to the more than 200 attendees present, there were also representatives from over thirty countries online, as well as more than 600 doctors who participated in the event.
In addition to major topics such as photodynamic therapy, laser acupuncture, and photobiomodulation, this year's conference also marked the first time that Taiwan collaborated with the top four laser medicine societies in Europe, America, and Asia to assist attendees in taking world-renowned certification exams such as ALD (American Laser Study Club), EMLA (European Medical Laser Association), and GMA Laser Education Center. In the past, Taiwanese physicians who wished to obtain foreign laser certification not only had to take the exams themselves, but also had to travel to the United States to obtain practical qualifications. However, this year, after numerous negotiations and consultations with foreign societies, APLI's CEO, Professor Jyuhn H. Ke, received full support from all the major societies. In addition to APLI handling group applications, examiners from the United States and other places flew to Taiwan to provide on-site testing for Taiwanese doctors. APLI also hosted multiple online courses in Chinese to rapidly enhance Taiwan's laser medical standards to match the world's level, attracting physicians from many countries to attend. Professor Jyuhn H. Ke, APLI's CEO, emphasized that the conference also awarded international certificates, with a total of 77 international doctors receiving laser specialist certification, of which 71 were Taiwanese.
Currently, other Asian regions can only register for these international certification exams on their own, and they do not have a well-planned preparation like APLI. As a result, their passing rates are still relatively low. Despite the difficulties of the exams, APLI encourages doctors not to give up this rare opportunity. In addition to learning the latest technologies such as photonics and light-based biological regulation during the conference, doctors can also join APLI's team to learn together. Currently, various exams are still ongoing, and it is expected that they will be completed by early December. These doctors will become the first batch of experts in Asia to obtain the world-renowned laser specialist certification. Most doctors have passed most of the certification requirements and are preparing for the next level of exams.
Bio-stimulation with light is not just a new application of laser technology, but also a fusion of the ancient Chinese wisdom of acupuncture. By stimulating acupuncture points with laser, it is possible to achieve treatment effects in distant parts of the body. This not only makes acupuncture treatment more accessible, but also allows the popularization of laser acupuncture worldwide, bringing better medical care to many medically underserved countries who would otherwise rely on expensive pain medications.
During this year of photobiomodulation, Taiwan has established itself as a leader in laser medicine in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the leadership of Chairman Wan-Teng Huang, Vice Chairman Tan Kai Seng, and Professor Jyuhn H. Ke, Taiwan has made great strides and showcased its advancements and flourishing development in laser medicine to the world, shining another light on Taiwan.
