Are your music files properly tagged?
Check in Windows Explorer, 'Details' view.
This is an example of properly tagged audio files.
Files not tagged? Artist & Title information or Ad information in the file name?
That's okay! You may use a third party renaming app to add a cart number of up to 8 digits to the file name, or do so manually.
For example: Rename 'Joe Schmoes Bakery.wav' to '600000+Joe Schmoes Bakery.wav'
The plus symbol informs Tools that the character preceding the '+' are the cart number. The information following will automatically placed in the title field.
For easy searching, decide in advance a cart number range according to file type &/or music genre. Cart numbers may have up to 8 alpha/numeric digits.
For example: Spots = 600000, Current Hits = 100000, Classic Rock = 200000. Liners, & so on.
We recommend that you create individual folders for each file type.
Upon import, APEX assigns the audio files a default cart number in the 90000's.
Music files will be automatically typed as 'M,' for music. All other files will be typed as 'X.'
The Library Manager allows you to mass rename your audio file's cart number. If you import your audio by type, such as: music genre, liners, spots, etc, it's much easier & faster to re-cart number en mass, rather than hunt & peck to select multiple carts or edit them one at a time.
Note: The mass rename feature only uses numbers.
For initial setup, copying your audio directly into the Library folder, located in the C:>DHD folder, is the quickest way to do so.
Copy audio into the Library folder according to audio type/genre. Copy ONLY the audio, not the type/genre folders. The software does not recognize sub directories in the Library folder.
After copying the audio, open the Library Manager & you will see your audio in the list.
Close the software, copy the next batch of audio files, open the software to see that it has imported. Follow these steps until you've imported your entire library.
You do not HAVE to follow the suggested steps above. You may copy all of your audio files into the Library folder at once, if you wish.
Once you're up & running with APEX, use the Import Audio folder shortcut that was created as the Installation & Setup steps were followed.
