Many people who come to an APCG conference and wish to participate in a field trip on Thursday, find they must arrive sometime on Wednesday.
Not much is planned for Wednesday. Many conference goers find time to explore the area on their own. Steve Graves offers several suggestions for self-guided regional tours on the Field Trips webpage.
If you are inclined, you may explore the possibility of arriving several days early so that you may try overnight or multi-night camping on one of the Channel Islands. See the Field Trips page for more details.
A very informal Wednesday evening mixer at the conference hotel lounge (or perhaps on a patio) is planned.

The National Park Service manages five islands off the Southern California coast that have been colloquially called “America’s Galapagos Islands.” After years of consumptive use, the NPS faced threats to more than 70 endemic species. Four controversial programs to inventory resources, eliminate exotic species, save the iconic and endangered island fox, and curb overfishing achieved success and diffused to other parks and land agencies.
