Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
My name is Doctor (or Professor) Kelley, and I am a Registered Dietitian (R.D.) and Registered Nurse (R.N.) with a Ph.D. in Nutrition, a Master's degree in Nutritional Sciences (MS) as well as Public Health (MPH). I am also a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), a Certified Childcare Specialist (CCS), and a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC). In addition to previously teaching at CSU LA and SCU HS (lower and upper division nutrition classes), as well as at the LACCD (Health and Nutrition courses), I worked at a variety of hospitals, including City of Hope, USC Norris Cancer Center, and Providence Holy Cross, where I assisted patients to recover from their illness and taught them ways to manage their disease in order to stay healthy with 'nutrition' and lifestyle modifications, while also leading professional staff and projects.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the local mountains with my dogs (3 goofy, rescued Rhodesian Ridgebacks), and also volunteer for Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue, Inc. (an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to finding suitable homes for this special breed).
As you might imagine, I enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion for using healthy choices to improve quality of life and optimize wellness. For me 'education' is about inspiration and transformation, building on previous knowledge and introducing new perspectives to critical thinking processes, while offering applied learning activities to find answers and solutions as a community of scholars in a diverse and open-minded world.
Health and Nutrition are scientific disciplines, and our knowledge expands almost daily. Hence, I am trying to present the vast material of new information in an interactive and thought-provoking way, in an effort to make it easier for students to understand, retain, form their own (educated) opinion, and take home with them into their personal lives and professional future.
Thank you for viewing my Online Teaching ePortfolio.
Sincerely, Dr. Kelley
