Title:Â True NorthÂ
Artist Statement: I wrote a poem about a ship lost at sea, in the middle of the night. By using the North Star to navigate, it can find its way home. I remember once being on the deck of a ship late at night; everything was pitch black. It looked like just a blank black screen everywhere. There was no light coming from anywhere except the lamps on the ship, and of course, the stars. Stars symbolize hope, and the North Star (or Polaris) is an especially good example because it can be used by seafarers to find true north.

Title:Â Shining Beam of HopeÂ
Artist Statement: This literature piece is meant to be a statement showing that you can always find hope in the darkest places when you least expect it. Sometimes being in the dark helps guide you to see the light. I used the old dog to represent the dark, and the puppy as the light that helps guide him. At the end of the story, the old dog breaks free from the darkness and learns how much he appreciates the puppy. This dog’s story is an example of how the light can be our hope.

Title:Â Five Senses of HopeÂ
Artist Statement: Hope to me is when one of your five senses becomes aware of something that gives you happiness, joy and a feeling that the future will be bright. But it can be something different for everyone. I wrote a poem trying to express hope and examples of it, but I realized that hope is a way of thinking based on what we see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

Title:Â A Reason for HopeÂ
Artist Statement: My work relates to the theme because it shows how hope is something that you should have but will not always happen. To have a hope for something is the best you could get. It is about how they are hesitant about whether or not to hope.
