I have recently joined the Department of Cognitive Science at IIT Kanpur, India, as an Assistant Professor. As a researcher, I am interested in uncovering the learning processes, focusing on the underlying cognitive strategies that learners employ while trying to solve a problem, and studying their thinking and reasoning processes as they try to make sense of concepts. The journey of learning about a concept from being exposed to it for the first time is marked with several milestones that fade into the background once we know the concept. My focus as a researcher is to extract those conceptual milestones from the learning process, identify and make explicit the underlying cognitive strategies, and connect them with learning outcomes. I, further, use this linkage between the processes and the outcomes to design efficient pedagogical resources. I use both qualitative and quantitative methods to identify and explain the trajectory of learning.
