Academic past
I did my PhD as a Learning Sciences Research (LSR) group member at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai. My research interest was largely placed at the interface of 'biology education' and 'cognitive science'. The 'biology education' aspect of my research interest stems from my academic background in biology - bachelors in Botany (H) and masters in Biochemistry. For my doctoral work, I studied how students interact with different forms of representation viz., verbal, visual (e.g., diagrams), and visual-haptic (e.g., 3-D models). This 'how' of the interaction stoked my interest in cognitive science - the science of how we 'act' upon and 'perceive' things of the world. Broadly speaking, my research work caters to two different themes:
Exploring the 'process' of learners' interaction with different external representations, and
Using the above insight to develop effective and efficient pedagogical resources for both instructors and learners.
You can read more about my thesis-'The cognitive role of external representations in understanding DNA structure' here.
In the past, I was a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Centre of Educational Technology, IIT Bombay.
