I started taking dance classes when I was eight years old. I classically trained in ballet, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, and tap. I competed for a year and found many outlets for my energy and creativity in this form of self expression. I performed and enjoyed my friendships there for years and I take what I learned to improve not only my dance but my patience, self esteem, and self understanding. Dance pushed me to try new things and made me experience musical theatre. I learned how to teach others and make music match emotion.
Once I got to Chico State, I found a new way to do what I love. I started taking ballroom dance classes and joined the club on campus. Even through the pandemic, we met virtually and I tried to continue my education in dance. It is a way for me to have fun, express myself, exercise, and be social. This club helped me mature, create events and memories, and become a better leader. I worked hard in my positions and learned a lot about the logistics that make dancing happen. From Social Media Officer to Events Chair, Vice President, and President, I worked hard to give back to the club and create an environment people could have fun in and learn.
