Journal
I will say this baldly and boldly. You cannot be an explorer without a journal. It doesn't matter if you are exploring the far reaches of the Earth or just your little corner of it as you go about your daily life. If you consider yourself an explorer you should document your life because you will never know when something you jotted down, perhaps in passing, will be critical knowledge in the future. If I could convince people of one thing, it is to journal. Your life has data and information that the future will want to know about.
I used Google Docs to house my journal. I write faster and better on a keyboard than I do by hand. Online journaling has benefits that paper journaling doesn't, mainly the ability to share, search, archive, curate and collaborate easily. I like Google Docs because I was able to write up my experiences offline and then once I got back to broad band internet access I uploaded them to the Internet.
