Project Planning
Chromebook Pilot
The following is one of the many projects completed as an Academic Technology Coach. This project will provide an overview of how I plan, implement, and evaluate technology programs.
Using elements of the ADDIE model, I worked with the Jones MS Principal to create a plan for deploying student Chromebooks on campus.
Analysis
About the campus:
Jones MS is a Title I campus in NISD. The campus services approximately 950 students and 100 staff members. The campus principal requested support with a chromebook cart initiative at the campus.
Needs Analysis:
A qualitative analysis was used to collect data from the campus administration and leadership team.
Discuss the intended outcome of the chromebook deployment.
How does this align with campus goals and objectives?
Discuss the types of support AT can provide based on target goals and objectives.
Goal / Outcome:
utilize available technology to prepare and engage students in 21st Century learning.
Academic Technology Objective:
Meet with each teacher to create a plan for implementation. Teachers should be able to utilize the chromebooks in a way that meets their learning objectives and harnesses the power of what chromebooks can do.
Teacher Expectations:
Teachers will create a Google Classroom for each class.
All assignments will be digitized and assigned through classroom.
Students will be expected to “turn-in” all assignments via classroom.
When applicable, all assignments will be converted to the appropriate google app version for students to complete and submit work electronically.
Data / Observation:
Was there an increase or decrease in:
Number of students missing assignments
Number of students turning in late work
Average grade on daily / project / test work
Design
Capacity Matrix:
ATC will meet with individual teachers to conduct a professional development and coaching plan for each T.O.T.
Chromebook Cohort - Preconference
Development
Development: In this phase, I created resources to support the implementation of student chromebooks. Using the PowerUp book and feedback from the ATC planning document, I created the Chromebook Tips and Tricks and Student Log in Procedures. The documents would be used as part of the implementation process.
Implementation
An important element of any deployment is adequate support. In my on-going documentation, I met with each pilot teacher to discuss projects, issues, and get feedback. I also supported pilot teachers in class with integration projects. Pilot teachers also provide information on chromebook issues that occurred during the pilot.
Evaluation
Evaluation: The evaluation process was on-going. However, a final feedback survey was given to each pilot teacher to complete. The data collected during and after the pilot was used to determine placement of the student chromebook carts for the next school year. I provided the program data to both the principal and TSS to create a plan for supporting all teachers in the next school year with student chromebooks.
What challenges did you face with the Chromebooks (as it relates to your subject)?
How did the students respond to the Chromebooks at the beginning? Did their views change?
What was your favorite project or what did you like most about the Chrome books?
Do you feel your department is ready to use the Chrome books and see the value of this digital learning environment? What are your thoughts on how the chrome books should be assigned for next year?
Next Steps / Sustainability
Continued Support & Coaching Objectives (Year 2).
Meet with Individual departments to plan device checkout out expectations / use and procedures for the new year (both teacher and student expectations).
Create and deploy online resource sites for teachers - Chromebooks In the Classroom.
Coach individual teachers in purposeful use of technology resources aligned to: 1) T-TESS professional development goals and 2) students learning objectives/outcomes.
Online resource site:
Getting Started with Technology - Levels of support (TSS, Helpdesk, & AT Coach)
Classroom Management - (check in / out), have a management plan (model lesson)
After the Lesson - (Student to do, visual checklist, signing out the chromebook).
