This was a VOSOT I made for a class assignment at Alabama. It details how Beat Auburn Beat Hunger is fighting food insecurity in West Alabama through on-campus events and programming.
This is my first VO I made for a class assignment. The details in the story are imaginary, but it was a good refresher on how to write, edit, and shoot good VOs!
This segment was the first one that I had ever worked on at the start of my junior year of high school, and it was also the one that won Best News Segment at the MSPA 2023 Spring Conference in Oxford. Making this segment was so memorable to me because I was able to cover real issues within my community while simultaneously discovering my passion for broadcast journalism.
This segment was particularly challenging, yet rewarding, to work on because we wanted to capture multiple viewpoints and angles in the story without pushing it one way or the other, and I felt we achieved that goal very well. The subject matter was also difficult due to the lack of visual appeal, but we got creative and gathered a wide variety of b-roll shots.
This segment was special because working on it gave me a new insight into a part of my community that is so close to me, yet I knew nothing about. I enjoyed making this story so much that it inspired me to get my own library card, volunteer at the library book sales, and participate in the events they offer monthly.
This segment was a bit of a whirlwind. We faced a lot of challenges when it came to scheduling interviews, getting permission to film, and last-minute cancellations. However, I believe we adapted and overcame with a solid segment that I was proud of.
