Streaming, H. (2025). In that clip i have learnt alot about how he would make music for the last of us he would make the music very minimalist he says that his role in the making of the last of us is 'to preserve this organic element kind of minimalism' i think this shows alot in the game how he captures the little moments with such smooth and little peaces of music that linkyou back to that part of the game every time you hear it. He also like to use stiff like pips and cans to make it sound more in th enviorment of the game, it really helps the music fit into the game and slmost reminds of how broken the world is by hearing cans and plastic pips really puts you into this post disaster world that 'The Last Of Us. Making music for games is all about finding the right ingrediance to put together to fit into a sequence of the game and that was one thing Neil Drunkman (the maker of The Last Of Us game serise) says that Gustavo Santaolla is really good at. He would often start with more than a hour of music and start cuting it down more and more to try find the right elements and then how they would fit it.
From doing this genre research it has inspired me with my track to use some differnt thing in the environment around me to make the song feel more and connect with the listener i want them to feel like they have been draged into The Last Of Us universe where the world is a distroyed and the eviromenet around them can be used to create music. I have also learnt a lot about how simplisty can be so effective in video games because you dont always want the music to be the focus of the scene you also want it to add more the main part of the scene.
While I was writing my song i wanted to learn a bit more about how the music influences the game i watched this video and learnt about how the guitar has such a deeper meaning in the game and how its one thing that keeps Ellie close to Joel even though he isn't here anymore. This one object the acoustic guitar carry so much emotion and attachment for Ellie not only in the second game in the first game Joel promised that he will teach her how to play guitar. The songs that are in this game show so much like 'Future days' which is one big metaphor for the first game and how Joel will do anything to save Ellie it really just shows how much Ellie means to Joel, this song also is foreshadowing Ellies whole journey through the second game and how Ellie is trying to find her self again after losing Joel. That song stays wit Ellie throughout the whole game and it acts like the 'light in the darkness' for her.
Ellie uses playing the guitar as an outlet because she can't bring herself to talk about him to anyone not even Dina who is her love interest and best friend throughout the game, she tries to play Future Days and couldn't even get past the first line when she plays the guitar for the first time after Joel's death. Overall the guitar and the music played on it is just one big symbol of the relationship between Ellie and Joel. By the end of the game the guitar is one big reflection on everything Ellie has sacrificed.
This song is played in Seattle Day 1 chapter in the game this is only the second chapter of the game this song is played by Ellie the main character of this game and is played to her love interest Dina. This is the first song and time Ellie has played the guitar since Joels death who was almost like a farther figure. The character Ellie has made a this song which is about love into lost love which is streight line into the tragic end of their relationship at the end of the game, so this song which is played very early in the game is almost forcshodowing there relationship, I think thats why they chose to use this song for this scene.

This song is played in the chapter Jackson which is the very first part of the game and this song is played by the main character from the first game and this song is played to the main character of this game so the second one. This song is just one massive metaphor of there relastionship as almost a daughter and her farther. This song is almost a promise to Ellie from Joel that he will do anything to protect her however this is forceshodowing how he does pass away and now Ellie has to protect herself.

One of the main differences are that Ashley johnson sings the song in a completely differnt and lower octave compared Aaron Barrett who sing around two and a half octives in the whole song due to his insane vocal range.
The Ashley Johnson verison is more acoutic and low compared to the original
They both use the same lyrics and very simular structure

John Williams is a very successful composer for films he has worked on massive film franchises such as -
Star War
Indiana Jones
Jurassic Park
Harry Potter
He has worked on some of the most famous and infamous films in the latest 50 yrs.
In this clip i learnt alot about his story on how he became the sucsess he is today. He talks alot about his first big job as a composer for the film Jaws (1975) and how he wanted the music to be more of a adventure than a scary sound, he also uses the voilum of the bum bum to tell you how far away the shark was. He then goes on to working on Starwars which he says that he thhought was going to be just one film and that Luke and Leia would end up together and thats why he wrote a track tahst almost like a love song.
In thic clip i learn alot of little tips and tricks that i can put into my compostion like how to layer tracks. i also learnt about chord trigger whcih is when you tap on any note it will create a chord which is a very useful tip for my composition so i can use this effectively.

little short cuts on logic -
you can right click on a track and be able to split t form that point.
If you press command A you can use automation on your track
Quantizing which is used to align all your note this is useful if i need to make use its all level and playing at the right time.
Fex time this is used to adjust single notes so if ones slighltly out of place you can fix it easily.
I am going do some research into differnt types of micrphones and which are the best ones to use for my project so for my performance i want to know which mic is best for my vocals as well as whats best to use when recording my guitar for my original score/composition.
Definition- dynamic microphones are a type of mic that work by coverting sound waves into audio signals while using electromagnism. These microphones are more often used to capture loader sounds they are also very durable.
The sm57 is good for vocals and guitars
The D112 is really good for the kick drum and Bass amps
Definition- Condenser microphones are a type of microphone that uses a capacitor to convert sound waves into electical singnals. These microphones are ver sensetive and have a wide frequency responce this also requires phantom power.
There are differnt types of microphones and its very important which one you pick because it can make the differnce betwwen super crisp audio and soggy sound which is why knowing about pola patterns are so important when recopording music and chooseing which mic to record what instument. Each polar patten has ist strengths and weeknesses and its important to be aware of these.
Cardioid
These types of microphone are the most common in directional pattern.
This type of mic only captures sound from one direction.
these type of mics are both used in studio and live.
Omnidirectional
This type of mic is really good for picking up enveromental sounds effiently
Has 360 sounds pickup
These microphones are great for recording large groups.
Bidirectional
This type of microphone captures sound from to opitsite directions it regects sounds from the sides.
This can be used to duet vocals and instruments.

This a live performance for The Last Of Us Part 2 where Ashley Johnson (Ellie from the game) and Troy Baker (Joel from the game) perform 'Wayfaring Stranger' who was written by Johnny Cash and was released in the year 2000. This perfromce is so moving by the way that Ashely sings in such a soft tone and the contrast with Troys voice where he sing is such a low voice. One thing i really like and has given me some inspiration for how i want my perfromance to look is the lighting how it almost has like a yellow undertone, i also like the way that Troy is sat on a stool while playing guitar.
This is a live perfromance for 'Life Is Strange True Colours' this a love song and it is written and played by Angus & Julia Stone this perfromance is very differnt to the one above from the last of us as this is perfromed by a band has more of a group set up this type of perfromance reminds me of the tiny desk live shows where you can capture such a pure sound. This song is performed by the people who wrote it.

This a perfromance for the Film Music Gala 2016. This is a perfromace by orchestra and has parts from the film playing behind them this is what had inspired me to want to have the theme song and present it on a big screen as well as why i am going to have a photo from the game behind me when playing my cover. This has inspired me alot with how i wanna present and perfrom my project.
