Mass wasting is the movement of rock and soil down slope under the influence of gravity.
It is a componet of erosion and transport of sediment, it follows weathering, whcih weakens and breaks the rock
The controls of mass wasting include --gravity, water, rime, time of material, climate, and vegetation
The runout of a mass wasting event depends on the volume of material, water content, and slope steepness.

quiz on mass wasting
LAB-
students explore how different materials (sand, gravel, lava rock) with different water contents on different slopes result in landslides of different severity. They measure the severity by how far the landslide debris extends into model houses placed in the flood plain.
