Project: This project is about the impact that social media has on society and the impact it has on myself. I'll be highlighting social media statistics and discussing my opinion on how social media has impacted society.
According to the "Am I addicted to social media quiz" i am fairly reliant on social media. I think that that result is accurate, I don't think I spend as much time as other people on social media but I could still spend less time on it, especially at night. I found it interesting that the website said the average person uses their phone for about 8 hours a day, I think that a lot people tend to use there phones a lot in the evening or at nighttime when they are not working or in school.
An interesting statistic that I saw from the Pew Research article was a demographic statistics based on use of each social media. The demographic that I found the most interesting was the gender one. Overall women use social media apps more than men like Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest but there were some apps like Reddit and twitter where men used the apps more. I thought the large gap between how much men and women use Pinterest was interesting because as a woman Pinterest is one of my most used social media apps.
Social Medias Impact: I have mixed feelings about social medias impact on society. I think that it has had both a positive and negative impact on the world. One of the biggest positives about social media would be how it makes communication more effective and easier for people all across the world. It allows people to connect and share their experiences anywhere and anytime, and its also entertaining activity to engage in. One of the biggest negatives would be how much people are addicted to it and how that can affect their mental health. I think it's fine to use social media daily but not to the point of addiction. It can make people feel unmotivated to complete other tasks or activities because they rather spend time online.
Lesson Learned: This project made me think about the how much social media impacts society. It also made me think about how much people are really addicted to their phones and social media, I think that more people are addicted or use it more than they think they do. The Pew Research Centers on social media was very interesting and informative. It was intriguing to see how separated some demographics are on social media use and the way they view it. A lot of people in the statistics tended to view social media as a more negative thing than positive. Even though I do understand the negatives of social media I'd say theres a balance between the positives and negatives of it.
