5th Days of animal STudies were held from October 17 to 19, 2023. The first day was entirely held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, where the second day was also partially held. Part of the second and part of the third day were held online, and the last parts of the program were held at the Dalmatina Library in Split.
The program publication of the 5th Days of animal STudies was published by the Croatian Bioethical Society in Zagreb. The event additionally initiated the international promotion of local animalistic motifs, primarily through the additional content of the (bilingual) program publication, which increasingly occupies a central place in it. The publication included the chapter A dog is not a brute of Miljenko Smoje's Dog Novelletes and its translation, following the centenary of the birth of the journalist and writer from Split. Additional content includes the winning story of the competition for the best children's story about a dog (Tamara Denona, The vortex of life) and an interview with Smoje's close friend Feđa Klarić (Reading between the paws), which was conducted by the students of the 1st Grammar School, Split. The students of the school also performed a notable dramatic interpretation of Dog's Novelletes. As a result, the event is increasingly aimed at children and adolescents, i.e. people with a more refined bioethical sensibility. The program included a scientific conference, a book presentation, a round table, a digital exhibition, a literary corner, and a poetic corner. However, the "island part" planned for October 20 and 21 had to be postponed due to the impossibility of the ferry sailing due to bad weather. In addition, Eli Collaro, Virpi Valtonen, Duško Trninić, Kristina Dilica, and Ivica Kelam were prevented from participating in the program.
