Established in 2017, Teatro Kaanyag is a school-based theater company of the Alangalang National High School. Teatro Kaanyag is a theater guild of creative and passionate artist-student committed to artistic excellence and a people’s culture that fosters both personal fulfilment and social transformation.

Teatro Kaanyag seeks to supplement the liberal arts program of the Alangalang National High School by exposing students to dramatic masterpieces and by instilling in company members the lessons of theater work, cooperation, responsibility, discipline, generosity and truth. The company is under the direction of Mr. Jay Ralph B. Matobato, one of the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) - Theater Arts faculty members.

Just recently, ANHS Teatro Kaanyag has been chosen to be one of the external linkages/ regional partner organizations of Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

OBJECTIVES

ANHS Teatro Kaanyag aims to:

a. build intellectual and aesthetic understanding of the craft and technique of theatre arts.

b. develop an appreciation of and respect for the various roles/aspects inherent within the theatrical process.

c. explore the diversity of theater and its intersection with community, culture and society.

d. establish cultural identity, awareness of life, preserve traditions and manifest a sense of nationalism through deepened appreciation of Filipino culture and arts.
