We are a team of students who want to raise awareness about a problem we never learned about in our schools. We identified a need in our town: Andover, MA, is home to at least 29 endangered species, and most people have no idea! There were turtles, salamanders, dragonflies, moths, freshwater mussels, plants and many other species that were identified by the Massachusetts government as either endangered, threatened or of special concern. We were horrified because we had never learned about this issue in our schools or from community events.
Our goal is to raise awareness and help residents of Andover, and towns all over the Commonwealth, become Citizen Scientists who make a difference. We believe in the intrinsic value of all species and that conservation is a right of all these species. In addition, all these species have important roles in their ecosystems; if any are to go extinct, the results could cause a domino effect leading other species to suffer a similar fate.
When looking around this website, we hope you note the things you can do in your own backyard to help.
Study our pages of reptiles/amphibians, insects, mussels and plants to learn what species live in your yard or favorite AVIS or Conservation Land reservations
Learn about turtles in particular--report sightings of the 3 endangered species (do NOT take them in as pets)
Pay attention to the Conservation Commission projects

Destination Imagination, called DI for short, is a non-profit organization devoted to teaching students invaluable skills such as, creative/critical thinking, problem solving, risk taking, project management, perseverance and self-confidence, to succeed in the real world. Every year, DI develops seven challenges as platforms for project-based learning that integrate STEM education with the arts and social entrepreneurship. Form a team with up to 7 kids and choose a challenge to solve with innovation and teamwork, and present your solution to appraisers (judges) at the tournament!
Massachusetts Destination Imagination (MADI) runs the regional and state tournaments for all teams located in Massachusetts, one of the largest affiliates in DI!
Challenge Me Inc., (CMI) is the overseeing organization for Andover's DI program. CMI helps form teams and provides support and training to teams and team managers in Andover and surrounding towns.
All DI organizations are 501(c)3 non-profit charitable and educational organizations
The Service Learning Challenge is designed to engage students in public service to address real-life community issues. Each year, the team chooses a real problem in any place they choose, being as big as the world or a small as a community. After carrying out a project to address the issue, we work on a DI solution to integrate and incorporate our community service into a creative skit with technical devices and other requirements based on the challenge given.
For our DI project, our team decided to raise awareness of endangered species in Andover. Most people go without knowing there are 29 different endangered species living in the same town as them. We've held online and in person events, all accumulated into this website for public access. See all our past events here:
