Research

Identified and explored existing external knowledge sources, sources of likely assistance, held competitive analysis to understand market and better refine the problem and write out a problem hypothesis.

Main problems discovered were:

Main User flow

Research helped me identify main user flows of Adding a new article and searching for one.

Affinity mapping

Design iteration

I decided not to change the design style of the website because i think the colors and elements suit Knowledge Cloud very nicely. Blue color is very calming and encouraging to work and its perfect for Law firms and other targeted companies.

First thing that i changed is added white space in text hierarchy to make it look more cleaner. That way the text is more pleasing to look at and it helps grab the attention of the user better.

Next i noticed the difference in typeface on “Ask a question” button. It was a serif font and it was different from the rest of the text on the website. I changed it to sans serif font “Inter” like on the rest of the website.

Changed design

When logging in there was no option to use Google, Facebook and etc. to sign in or sign up. This feature make sign in/up more accessible and easy which can help save time and confusion for users. also there was no option to “stay remembered” when signing in. It is also more convenient for the user to not signing in every time they enter. I also changed the left side of the screen and added images. Imagery speaks to user better than plain text.

Changed design

On the homepage i noticed the difference between icons on search bar and navigation bar. Icons were from different kits which made the website look messy. Some icons were not recognizeable. I switched the icons to more rounded and friendlier icons from the same kit. These icons are also more recognizeable.

Advanced search on the navigation bar can be replaced with “filter” feature on search bar. Its more user friendly and it saves time from going to multiple screens and getting lost.

Changed design

Settings are too confusing for the user. Too many options appear on navigation bar and its distracting the user making them feeling anxious. I desided to change settings button and make it open second navigation bar while hiding the main one, leaving only icons so that the user could return to it at any time. Having settings separated this way is allowing users to observe only settings options saving them from feeling anxious or being confused.

Upon observing more it caught my attention that input bars, articles and information are too wide and scattered on the page witout leaving any white space around. I changed some screens by adding white space around information on pages as well as made input bars a bit more narrow. These changes made design become more cleaner and help users navigate easier. Pages look cleaner with white space and focus users attention in one place instead of making the user search chaotically.

One of the things that i also noticed is not being able to cancel the changes when making any edits in an article or in settings. I went ahead and added this feture into my iteration.
