Jan Kather (MFA, Cornell, 1982) teaches darkroom photography and video art at Elmira College, as well as occasionally teaching photography courses at Cornell University. Often collaborating with other artists, she has most recently been involved with an international video installation project Fragments, in partnership with artists Michael Chang (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Marty McCutcheon (Berkeley, California) at Elmira’s Arnot Art Museum in April 2011. She is also part of the ongoing international collaborative Exquisite Corpse Video Project, orchestrated by Brazilian artist Kika Nicolela. She continues a long time collaborative partnership with regional artist Tom Oberg, most recently with The Ruins, a photo/video/sculptural installation in Elmira College’s George Waters Gallery. In addition to teaching and collaborating on many projects, she is a member of the cooperative State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca, NY and the local experimental artist collective Rural Research Laboratories. She promotes all forms of art by curating exhibitions such as American Vision, Monochrome, After Dark, SOAG Member Shows and Women Artists Invitationals at Elmira College’s George Waters Gallery.
