I designed a brochure for the fictional Museum of Play in Seattle, WA with Adobe Illustrator. This project expands on the themes of my trio of Copywriting projects based around said museum, offering visitors a compelling look at the Autumn 2025 season's new exhibitions.
From my copywriting projects, I knew I wanted the brochure to discuss exhibits for the Autumn 2025 season at the Museum of Play. I dedicated two pages to each exhibit—a cover page with a black background and an artist statement with a white background. I wrote the copy of the artist statements and ideated on exhibit and character names before starting on graphic design. That way, I had a stronger idea of what kinds of graphics would be thematically appropriate for each exhibit.
For instance, I used symbol spraying, custom pattern brushes, and envelope warping to convey themes of the impact of increasing digitalization on humanity and autonomy in systems of oppression. Overall, my artistic sensibilities and design capabilities combined to create a resonant and intriguing artwork.
In addition, I used consistent typography throughout to establish a clear brand image. The use of color, in addition, allows each exhibit to stand out as distinct from the others while the pages unrelated to exhibits (e.g. the Table of Contents and Curatorial Statement) use a limited, consistent color scheme to stay on-brand. This adds to the professional image of the museum while demonstrating the diverse array of exhibits.
I also experimented with Illustrator's generative AI, as with the design at the bottom of page 11. This allowed me to speed up the design process and stay up-to-date on new technologies in Adobe Illustrator.
The Museum of Play's Autumn 2025 promotional brochure is a fully realized work that serves to excite and educate the museum's audience. By designing thematically appropriate, high-fidelity graphics coupled with in-depth text, I created not only a brochure but an experience in and of itself.
