Amro Zidan is a multidisciplinary artist from Alexandria, Egypt, living in Alexandria and Cairo, whose practice spans experimental sound, electronic music, and visual media, including performance, improvisation, music production, rapping, vocal experimentation, sound design, sound engineering, projection-based new media, and visual art. Through both solo and collaborative projects, he creates immersive, site-responsive audio-visual works. Each project carries its own distinct sonic and conceptual identity, reflecting his deep commitment to experimentation and context-specific creation.
His recent solo work, including Ecstasy of Mania and Tamheed Lil Fawda, explores high-energy experimental electronic music with underground/experimental club and Middle Eastern influences, creating immersive live sets suitable for festival stages, club environments, and hybrid performance spaces.
Amro began his musical journey in 2006, initially working in Hip Hop. Over the years, he has founded several bands, released multiple tracks and albums, and contributed to Egypt’s independent music scene. In 2022, he released two albums: his solo project El Tashweesh Tafah and El A'sara as part of the collaborative project "EIN L AQL," co-founded with composer, electronic musician, and oud player Bassem Diaa.
In 2023, Amro released the solo album Until It’s Clear, alongside various singles, live sets, and collaborative works. He collaborated with international artists Sylvia (Germany), Jeanne (Germany), and Egyptian artist Ayman Asfour on experimental improv live concerts, which resulted in an upcoming EP. He also collaborated with Ukrainian artist Masha Kashyna, based in Germany, on live improvisation performances and recordings. In 2024, he released the first EP of the Ma Waraa Al Qutbeen (Beyond the Poles) project, titled El Hufra (The Pit). That same year, he also released Albaydah Wal Hajar album with EIN L AQL.
Amro is also the creator of Between, an ongoing project he founded and later developed into a collaboration with visual artist and filmmaker Hamdy Wahba. The project explores urban and natural soundscapes through field recordings, live processing, sound and image documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. In April 2025, he co-founded a new live improvisation performance project titled Tawreet (Entanglement) with dancer and choreographer Ziad Medhat, blending sound, visuals, and movement. In 2025, Amro and Hamdy Wahba participated in the “Mind Is Like a City” residency organized by Bsarya for Arts with the curator Farida Youssef. The residency culminated in an exhibition and a live performance showcasing the project "Between."
In early 2025, Amro released a new EP titled Tamheed Lil Fawda (Prelude to Chaos). In July 2025, he released his second full-length solo album and fifth solo release overall, titled Ecstasy of Mania (Nashwet l Hawas). Recently, Amro also began a new ongoing collaborative project with Jordanian performance artist and choreographer Anas Nahleh.
Amro has participated in numerous artistic residencies and workshops with Egyptian and international artists. Notable residencies include the Goethe-Institute Alexandria in partnership with Alexandria Heritage Days (with Daniel Dominguez Teruel, Germany), and the Grüne Fête de la Musique 2024. He also took part in a music composition camp led by Kamilya Jubran, which enriched his approach to collective musical creation.
Over the years, Amro has presented his work in numerous concerts and live performances, both solo and in collaboration with other artists, across a wide range of artistic settings.
In addition to his music projects, Amro has contributed to the film industry as a composer, sound designer, and sound engineer for various independent films. His work seeks to explore innovative approaches to film music and sound design beyond mainstream conventions.
As he looks toward the future, Amro continues preparing new releases, albums, and live performances, aiming to expand his contributions to experimental and conceptual music on both local and international stages. In September 2025, he took part in an artist residency in Amman, Jordan, organized by (Studio8) in collaboration with (INTERFERENCE) and (Danseurs Citoyens Sud) , where he created a collaborative performance that combined sound, visual arts, and performance art with visual artist Rayane (Lebanon) and performance artist and choreographer Safa Baluchi (Oman). The performance was presented at the opening of the IDEA Festival. In December 2025, he performed at XP Music Festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In September 2026, he will take part in an artist residency in Switzerland supported by Pro Helvetia. He is also preparing for a 2026 European tour, with performances planned in cities including Berlin, Marseille, Hannover, Paris, and Metz.
Through his practice, Amro continues to explore new forms of sonic expression while contributing to the development of experimental and independent music scenes in Egypt and beyond.
