In this project, I had to research a place that wasn't in the USA, and focus on learning about things, like the population, demographics, and their technology uses, among others. I chose Norway, since it was a place I've been wanting to travel to for a while now. One of my favorite YouTubers are based in Norway, and their videos have made me love the country.
Something I learned about Norway is that there isn't a giant digital divide like I had assumed there would be. Around 99% of the population there has access to the internet and/or has a mobile cellphone. It's freezing cold in most places in Norway, and in the Svalbard Archipelago is ice or snowbound in most places there. If there isn't ice stacked on it, there's snow - even in summer.
Here's a table I made for the regional climates:
My partner, who was awesome to work with, chose New Zealand, which is another place I want to travel to. It's a really beautiful country, with lots of fun attractions - like visiting the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit movie sets! Something I learned about New Zealand was all the different languages they speak there! In Norway, it's mainly English and Norwegian, but in New Zealand, it's Māori, Samoan, and Tagalog, among others!
It would also take SUCH a long time to fly anywhere in New Zealand, up to 40 hours (according to Google Maps), and it would take up to 36 hours to get to some places in Norway, but only 10 if you're going to Oslo, or Bergen.
Here are some photos of our presentation slides:
This project was super fun! Researching a country I've wanted to go to for so long was really interesting, especially when figuring out the climate in the cities I would want to go to. I learned a lot about Norway and New Zealand, like a few similarities in the demographics and the digital divide.
Working with my partner was nice and easy. I would work on my own time, then we would talk in our class time to catch each other up on what we needed to do, then we worked on our own research. We each formatted the slides, while making sure it flowed smoothly.
