The Week in Review from Katherine...

The cast and crew of A Midsummer Night's Dream completed their first week at Beye. They're a week away from the show and doing a phenomenal job! They've been learning how to work with a completed set and props, as well as getting used to the auditorium space. Crew kids have been rehearsing cues and creating signage to guide our guests once they arrive to see our show. Costumes arrived and cast members started to bring their costume basics. As the cast and crew got more acquainted with the space at Beye, they saw that the show is set up to run exceptionally well.

Please don't wait to get your tickets to the shows! Get them now (we have PLENTY left). Please feel free to post the show information on Social Media so that we have a great audiences for all of our shows.

This was our last week at Julian! On Monday we will still meet at Julian but then take a walking trip to Beye School to look at our new home and get an idea of how we’ll use that space. Starting on Tuesday everyone in the cast will come directly to Beye School at 9:30am (9:00am for pre-campers) and be dismissed from Beye at 3:00pm. Beginning Wednesday, the crew will come directly to Beye School at 9:30am and be dismissed from Beye at 3:00pm

Okay, now that that business is out of the way, I’m happy to tell you that the chase sequence that I’ve been talking about since Day One is finally on its feet! We also have added our college actors and (mostly) memorized our lines.

The Week in Review from Katherine...

In addition to rehearsing our Parent's Day presentation, the cast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream worked on acting with intentions, melodramatic acting, and acting in-between lines. The students played improv games as their character then rehearsed the play, using what they’d brought to life from the games. The actors did a bit of critical writing to create a background for their character and made sure they understood the words they were speaking. It also built some confidence in children who didn’t think they could master speaking in iambic pentameter and it’s wonderful to see their growth.

This is what the directors had to say about this week:

We are off to a strong start with A Midsummer Night's Dream. We spent some time to learn the twists and turns of the plot, figured out who is playing what parts, and gotten a really good jump on staging the play. We have also met our 5 co-stars: a bunch of rolling trees that will help us move from place to place in our magical forest. Next week: adding jokes. Lots and lots of jokes. I can't wait!

ABOUT A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

In A Midsummer Night's Dream, residents of Athens mix with fairies from a local forest, with comic results. In the city, Theseus, Duke of Athens, is to marry Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. Bottom the weaver and his friends rehearse in the woods a play they hope to stage for the wedding celebrations. Four young Athenians are in a romantic tangle. Lysander and Demetrius love Hermia; she loves Lysander and her friend Helena loves Demetrius. Hermia’s father, Egeus, commands Hermia to marry Demetrius, and Theseus supports the father’s right. All four young Athenians end up in the woods, where Robin Goodfellow, who serves the fairy king Oberon decides to change everything for these for athenians.
