Dear Parent,
As CAST's parent advisory board, we'd like to welcome you to CASTSummer! We know that your family is going to have a great summer with us, and we would like to get it started with a word or two about the casting process that takes place in the first week of camp. Children often come into CAST hoping for a very particular role in a particular show. Please be assured that our team of experienced directors takes great consideration when casting each and every part.
From our experience, it is not uncommon for some children to be disappointed with our casting decisions. Be prepared - you might hear your child grumble about their part or their play assignment. (Remember, this happens with professional adult actors, as well.)
We ask for your patience, however, as children adjust to camp. It can take a bit of time for your actor to bond with their director and fellow cast members. But once rehearsals are up and running, we find that children grow comfortable with their parts and see that each and every role - from lead actor to chorus member - is important to the success of the show.
You can help by encouraging your child to remain upbeat and positive about his or her play. You may need to remind them that they are a valued member of their team and their participation is needed to make the show a success.
Clearly, if your child's disappointment is persistent and does not diminish over time, then please come and talk to us. But from our experience we find that almost all campers come to greatly enjoy their experience with Summer CAST - and remember it fondly for years to come.
See you at the shows!
