University Advantage Program April Updates

9th and 10th Grade Students

Throughout the month of April, many changes have occurred to the end-of-year timeline across American high schools, but that doesn’t mean that students should quit planning for university and thinking about how to best use their time in the college prep process. For students wrapping up 9th and 10th grade, it is the time to consider how you will plan to spend the summer. Of course, traditional in-person summer campus are closing, but that means there will be even more online options available to provide valuable experiences. Here are a few links to help get your research started.

11th Grade Students

Throughout the month of April, our juniors will engage in meaningful webinars, workshops and essay writing seminars to prepare them for the college application process next fall.

  • Workshops: Every Amerigo campus was invited to participate in online workshops focused on resumes building, creating application timelines and building an online portfolio.

  • Essay Writing & Preparation: All Amerigo juniors have been invited to create an account through Prompt, a new essay writing and college application planning software. Additionally, every Amerigo campus focused on getting our juniors to write essays. Essays are a critical component of the college application process, and they are a piece of the application that can be worked on intensively over the summer!

  • Webinars: Together with our university network, Amerigo students have been invited to attend two webinars in March and April. In March, we co-presented with Miami Ohio University on Scholarship and Financial Aid for International Students. In April, we will co-present with Baylor University on Early Action, Early Decision & Their Impact on Admission. In the fall, we will continue to bring this resource to students.

12th Grade Students

As your students prepares to make their final university decision, please see these resources and tips for making your enrollment deposit.

  • ENROLLMENT DEPOSITS: Traditionally, May 1st marks “National Decision Day” in the United States, as it is by this date that admitted students must commit to their top-choice university and submit an enrollment deposit. At the time of writing, May 1st REMAINS the deposit deadline for the majority of U.S. universities. However, a number of schools are choosing to postpone their enrollment deadline to June 1st or later. You can access that list here.

  • MAKING YOUR DEPOSIT: If your family has been effected financially by COVID-19 and cannot make the May 1st deadline for enrollment at your child’s top-choice university, please pick up the phone and call their office of admission to request an extension.
