The IRES-BEAMS program will start accepting applications for Summer 2022 on October 15, 2021.

Application and Selection Process

An online application through the website will request name, address, phone, email, demographic information (ethnicity, first generation, gender, etc.), and profile information (technical or non-technical work, military or non-military, research experience or not, etc.). To be eligible for the IRES-BEAMS Program, students will be prompted to email or provide hard copy of supporting documentation for:

  • US Citizenship or permanent residency

  • Enrollment in an Engineering (USF) or STEM (Florida A&M) degree program

  • Advising or mentoring by REU or faculty advisor with experience in materials or devices.

The applications will need be accompanied by a letter of support from a major professor or undergraduate department coordinator. Selected scholars will undergo a series of pre-departure workshops led by PI Thomas, in collaboration with USF World, USF Education abroad (https://www.usf.edu/world/education-abroad/), the Nanotechnology Research and Education Center (http://www.nrec.usf.edu/) and the USF Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) (http://www.lib.usf.edu/undergraduate-research/).
