Berries & Fruit

  • The runners study found that eating 3 or more pieces of fruit lowered the risk of death by Alzheimer’s by 60%. (Williams, 2014) This type of study can not prove causation and it may be that people that eat more fruit also tend to have other habits that lead to less Alzheimer’s and the study looked at “death by Alzheimer’s” during the study period not having Alzheimer’s. The study covered 12 years with 153,000 people.
  • Serum plasmalogen levels increased with a “nordic diet” that included berries versus a standard diet. (Lankinin, 2016)
  • 2 or more servings of strawberries per week were shown to reduce incidence of Alzheimers in women in an 18 year analysis of over 15,000 women in the Nurses Health Study (Morris, 2015).
  • Mice studies show an active compound in strawberries can decrease tau protein accumulation (2014)
