Hello, and welcome! Thank you for stopping by to explore my work.
I am Alvi Islam Ratul (he/him), a young researcher from Bangladesh. Growing up in the Global South, I have experienced both technology's potential and its limitations in contexts shaped by constrained resources and unequal access. These experiences led me to Human-Centered Computing, including Human–Computer Interaction and Human–AI Interaction, where I explore how digital systems can be designed to be accessible, intuitive, and ethically grounded. I am also interested in Usable Security and Privacy, focusing on how people understand and navigate safety and risk in everyday technology. Alongside this, my interest in ICT for Development drives me to study how technology can support inclusion, empowerment, and sustainable impact when designed in close collaboration with communities. Through my work, I hope to contribute research and design practices that help bridge digital divides in the Global South and beyond.
I am currently working as a Full-time Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BRAC University under the supervision of Dr. S M Taiabul Haque. My role involves collaborating with research teams, coordinating research activities, and supporting undergraduate students throughout the planning, execution, and dissemination of their research studies. I also serve as an executive team member of the Human-Centered Computing and Society (HCCS) research group, working as the Co-Coordinator of Operations.
Outside of my academic work, I enjoy watching anime and sitcoms, following Formula 1, and reading manga. I also have a passion for collecting currency from around the world, and over time, I’ve built a growing collection of Bangladeshi and foreign banknotes and coins.
I have published in ICTD, CUI, COMPASS, and OzCHI, and have affiliations with:
