What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a beneficial way to assist you to achieve positive changes and alterations in your life in a more comfortable manner. It's about you gaining control over those thoughts behaviours or parts of your life that seem out of control.

Hypnosis is a natural and normal state. All hypnosis is self hypnosis. We dip into and out of this state each day so it feels natural and normal. Some people are surprised at the level of awareness they experience. Hypnosis is not sleep.

Hypnosis has been officially recognized by both the English and American medical associations and is recognized as a good supportive option to help manage I.B.S., psoriasis and eczema as well as changing habits, fears and phobias etc.

Can I be hypnotised?

If you can understand and follow instructions you'll be fine. We naturally pass through the hypnotic state when waking or drifting off to sleep and also when daydreaming or getting really involved in watching a movie or reading a book. If you have ever driven somewhere and thought. "I'm here, but I don't remember a particular part of the journey." You were in that same state - it is normal and natural.

Be open, engage with the process, follow instructions and be prepared to change. I cannot make you do anything you don't want to do and as a professional hypnotherapist I can not offer any guarantee as to outcomes or effectiveness.

How many sessions will I need?

It is completely understandable that you want to know this but I don't know you or what it is you are dealing with or experiencing.

Expect to feel some improvement after the first session. Be open, engage with the process, follow instructions and be prepared to change. Hypnosis can have magical results but it is not a magic wand. I cannot make you (or anyone else) do anything you don’t want to.

Generally, 3 - 5 sessions are sufficient with most people and most issues -although some people do achieve their desired outcomes in 1 or 2 sessions.

All sessions are personalized to you. We are all different. We can vary in our motivations and needs and respond to things in individual ways.

Will I be made to do anything I don’t want to?

No. The person being hypnotized is in complete control. I'm merely a facilitator. It’s not possible to make someone do anything they don't want to or that is contrary to their own values or ethics. Nor would you say anything you would not want the therapist to hear.

How Long is a Session?

A first session is about 90 minutes in length. Subsequent sessions are usually around 60 minutes in length. Children's sessions can be shorter but it is very difficult to give an exact length. To be safe I ask that you allow up to 90 minutes per session. Please be on time. Please inform me if you have to be away by a fixed time.

What does it feel like?

The short answer is it feels very normal and natural and is very pleasant. There is no one "hypnotised" feeling what you feel is personal to you.

Some people say it's like daydreaming or zoning out. You are not asleep but instead are relaxed with a sometimes unexpected sense of awareness. You're in full control

and can hear all that is being said to you.

Some folks say they experience a lovely sense of heaviness in their limbs or lightness or tingling and some say they feel just nicely r-e-l-a-x-e-d.

One client calls it a 'Massage for the Mind'.
