William John Allen was the only son of William Chevins Allen and Harriet Allen.
He was born on 11 September 1898, and baptised on 16 November 1898 at Holy Trinity Church in Woolwich.
William’s father was a Tobacconist / shop keeper. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census, the family were living at 14 Greens End, Woolwich.
By the time William died in 1917 his parents were living at 8 Woolwich Common.
Holy Trinity Church was built in 1833 as a daughter church to St. Mary Magdalene. It stood on the corner of Ropeyard Rails, Beresford Street, and Beresford Square. It ministered to the "Dusthole" the poorest part of Woolwich and was demolished in the 1960s.
