Sandwich was built for the internal Tufts Battlebots competition during my freshman fall. As it was my first ever robot, I used a lot of the parts from the kit we were given by our club.
It is a horizontal spinner and the predecessor of Fluffernutter. Sandwich is significantly over 3 lbs and would not be legal for a real NHRL fight but these matches were for fun and learning!
Sandwich competed in three matches, winning two and losing the last one to the club president. It barely missed the victory!
Brief technical difficulty where I could not get Sandwich to turn on because the switch wires I soldered on were exposed and shorting with the aluminum armor.
I took a pause and let someone else fight so that I could put electrical tape around the hole where the switch was contacting the metal.
Sandwich then turned on like normal. The fight was on!

As it was my first robot ever, I was grateful for the kit of parts provided by Tufts Robotics Club to get me started. I liked the idea of a horizontal spinner because I did not want my robot to unintentionally launch itself when it hit another, which I'd see vertical spinner robots do from watching matches.
My chassis was PLA with TPU wheel guards and heat-set inserts to hold the aluminum plates on. My wheels and drive motors were from Polulu and they came with the kit. For my weapon motor, I direct-drove it with a Sunnysky motor I found amongst the discarded robot parts from previous years.
