Internship Portfolio

Overview and Background:

I am a high school ELA teacher, teaching at the second largest high school in the state of Louisiana. I currently teach junior and senior level English. Over the last few years, I have had many students come back to see me after graduation, complaining about how hard online classes are. This is not just because of the format of the class, but also the fact that students are given modules or weekly assignments rather than day-by-day coursework.  Students are also taking much of their time to try to learn how to use new digital tools they are not familiar with for these online classes, taking away essential time for learning the material.

In a previous course, we created learning designs which supported both technology integration and alignment, as well as student and teacher creativity with lesson and curriculum planning and activities. My goal is to take what I learned from this class and apply this to the re-writing of the English IV curriculum for my students at St. Amant High School, to better align with the state and ISTE standards, as well as provide a better simulated class environment to parallel that of a college online class.

Goal:

Begin the process of drafting a curriculum designed for weekly online modules/learning designs which require digital tools to complete activities and authentic assessments. The weekly modules will include ISTE and state standards and will be aligned accordingly for assessment.

Materials:

-Louisiana State ELA standards

-ISTE standards (student)

-SpringBoard textbook and other teacher materials from Guidebooks and other resources

-Google Classroom

Supervisor:

Amy Knott  is the secondary assistant principal of St. Amant High School, where she has also taught. She is currently both my assistant principal and my department leader. Mrs. Knott has a background in English and has attended many benchmark writing PD sessions (focusing on alignment). I feel that she would be the best fit as my supervisor based on her expertise in the same content area as myself and she goes above and beyond her calls of duty for her teachers to make sure they are successful.
