We get it.

People have busy lives. And cost of living pressures mean parents and carers might have to return to the workforce. This also means less availability for volunteering time to help the kids at school.

There's also the drive to keep costs down.

Unfortunately, the P&C is not immune to rising costs and there is a direct relationship between the numbers of volunteer hours we can secure and the end cost of goods and services to the school community. The same relationship exists for the amounts we can donate back to the school for vital infrastructure and projects.

That is why we're augmenting our current business units and events programs with avenues to raise funds with zero input from volunteers and minimal extra effort on your part.

That doesn't mean to say we won't still rely on parents and carers to continue the successful calendar of events we usually host; it just means we can supplement our fundraising streams with some great ongoing initiatives. We encourage you to take part when and where you can.

Program 1

Drakes Community Dollars

How it works

When you do your groceries, at the checkout, scan the Drakes app on your phone
You need to nominate Algester P&C Association as the recipient of your Drakes Dollars
Download the myDrakes apps from the App Store and Google Play

Any person or family - with children at the school or not - can nominate Algester P&C as the recipient of their Drakes Community Dollars (and if you're lucky, every now and then, win $$ off your bill!)

What we get

Drakes will donate 1c for every $1 spent

Program 2

Athlete's Foot

How it works

Buy a pair of shoes from Athlete's Foot Carindale, Mt Gravatt or Capalaba and nominate Algester State School at the time of purchase
Any school staff, students, members of their families or anyone nominating Algester can trigger the donation

What we get

$5 from every pair of shoes purchased that we can use to buy sporting equipment for the school

Program 3

Containers for Change

How it works

Children put their empty drink containers in the special bins around the school and for every eligible container, 10c is earned
People and businesses can take their own pile of drink containers to the Containers for Change depot and allocate their refund as a donation to the Algester P&C Association (10c for glass wine and spirit bottles now too!)

Anyone with the myDrakes app can track to progress of our Community Dollars.

You can see how over time, we've been able to boost the donationa dollars earmarked for student support initiatives and helping to keep operating costs down.
