I started casually doing photography going into my junior year of high school in Spain. The summer prior I had been learning the in's and out's of my father's Sony camera making "On My Way Out", a film that I never got around to releasing. In going to Spain, I had brought my father's camera with me with the intention to make a short film at some point in the year. However early in the year, my class went on a school trip to a very beautiful small town a couple of hours away from where we were living, and I realized that cameras can be used to take videos AND photos.
In Alquezar (the town we went to) I began taking photos some photos of my friends and the people I was with for fun. I didn't think any were going to turn out any good, but upon looking back at them a couple of days later, some had come out way better than I expected. I shared them with some of my friends and heard glowing reviews afterwards, which inspired me to keep up the tradition the rest of the year. Practically every trip we went on after that, I would have my camera, trying to capture every beautiful moment in that beautiful country - in turn improving my photography skills.
Upon coming home to America, I started taking photos of places I was going, school theater productions, social gatherings, etc. I was known as the photographer of the school (and "that kid who went to Spain"). Since then I have taken multiple professional gigs and worked with some amazing clients and companies.
