Searing petroil shimmer
scorches my cheek
as I crouch to thumb your tickler
Blue rainbow throats
and cable creaks
release your waiting fire
realised on read roads
in rivet, rattle and roll
Dust to dust, spoke-spun shuffle
the blinking goggles blitz
past shaken thorn and dry-stone grin;
the skull nods assent
Sunshine-drunk
in crushing time,
foreshortening roads, then
sucked and spat into futures
blown and flibbered
roared and jibbered away
in an elbow dance with nettles
Weight-shifter of huffing mechanisms,
flits through shadow-pounce
into gleaming dust beams;
a roiling draught of leaves
symbolic, swirled, says
we’ve gone
The tuneful Doppler, through rise and fall
leaves oiled sighs
and raptor cries;
a mellifluous metal mirage
Up the winding hill
we push
fast as sight dare, sometimes faster
elbow to elbow and shed to shed…
…the shed
where the detritus of brutal love
and spanners caress
await future romance
