When logic leaves you
stone cold alone
No amount of light
can torch this darkness
dense and harder than basalt
darker than obsidian
harder than black diamonds
darker than dreams buried
in assimilated alien torture
A dark sea rolls over your head
and fight or fly fight
but you’re held too tight
as the engine of your subconscious
smokes and puthers
under stressed excess throttle
and they fly apart like exploding dreams
The mechanism shudders
and you cannot scream
or speak
any sense
and
even after bonds are broke
the concrete-filled hulk
you call your “self” is
welded and stuck
while imaginary limbs
have dragged you at the speed of light
far away from bother, but
in reality, no muscle responds
and your gibbering wreckage
is loaded with horror that
no kiss or comfort can allay
It’s a vein of exit
struggle almost given over
your fight has flown
It will not depart
it manifests in everyday sounds
THE ALARMS startling,
not describing
what unknown terror might strike
and am I sick, or just imagining
or does this vile spot
generate these horrors -
antithesis of life’s fair dreams
destroyer of hope
ruin of prayer
the cat in hell’s countdown
The tiny rebuilding of hope
an interrogator wanting more
than you have
ring this number
if you feel like ending it
but that’s when you’re least likely to call
