Franz obtained his Bachelor's from San Simón University in Bolivia and a Master's from Beihang University in Beijing, China with a thesis focused on analyzing the scale effects on WRF-Chem simulations of CO₂ and CH₄. He is currently a Ph.D. student at Beihang University, using machine learning for atmospheric studies, with a particular focus on pollutants. Sasanka is a PhD student at University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on understanding the physical processes that drive extreme weather events. He is investigating the influence of the brown ocean effect and convective cold pools on hurricane dynamics. He is using the Hurricane WRF model, and observational data to gain insights into these phenomena. Thesis (under construction), co-supervised with Prof. Dev Niyogi.
