Projects Participation
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) (2021-2023). Understand changes in air quality during exceptionally low anthropogenic emission conditions using observations and a model inter-comparison approach. The project aim to understand the air pollution changes produced during Covid-19, to do it first an observational analysis of 63 cities was performed and then a model intercomparison approach was design to understand those changes. Alejandro Casallas helped with the data processing of the observational analysis in Colombia, and worked as one of the Colombian leaders in the intercomparison project.
European Union. PAPILA: Prediction of Air Pollution in Latin America and the Caribbean (2018-2023). The overall objective of the PAPILA project is to establish a sustained network of partners with complementary expertise that develops and implements an analysis and forecast system for air quality with downscaling capability for Latin America and the Caribbean region (LAC region), and to assess the impact of air pollution (background and peaks) on health and on the economy. This system will help decision-makers improve air quality and public health, and avoid the occurrence of acute air pollution episodes, particularly in urban areas. Alejandro Casallas start participating on 2023 as a coworker in charge of the runs and first analysis of the Colombian domain results.
Programa Iberoamericano de Ciencia y Tecnologia Para el Desarrollo (CYTED). RED DE PREVENCIÓN, MITIGACIÓN Y REHABILITACIÓN DE ÁREAS AFECTADAS POR INCENDIOS FORESTALES (REDPREMIA) (2021-2024). The Network is an interdisciplinary consortium and is made up of 5 research groups from 5 different countries, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua, Mexico and Peru. Our greatest commitment as a Network is to promote methodologies for fire risk management, promoting the care of sustainable communities, ecosystems and agroecosystems, attacking the main threats to the climate, specifically caused by forest fires and enabling the generation of public policies. Alejandro Casallas participate as one of the leaders in the Colombian section.
MINISTERIO DE CIENCIA, TECNOLOGÍA E INNOVACIÓN - MINCIENCIAS and Fondo de Investigación en Salud (FIS) of Colombia (2021-2023). Fortalecimiento de Proyectos en ejecución de ciencia, tecnología e innovación en Ciencias de la Salud con Talento Joven e Impacto Regional. The project aim to analyze the impact of air pollution into public health in Colombia through the use of reanalysis, satellite information and epidemiological models. Alejandro Casallas worked as coauthor in the air quality analysis, data management and model design.
