Paul Keefe
In his youth Albert had been a member of the Oxford and Bermondsey Club (the OBC). Paul Keefe a member of the club was saddened to learn that Albert's achievement was not recognised by any memorial; a plaque at Grange School had been lost during renovations in the 1990s.
Paul enlisted the support of his local MP Simon Hughes and of Admiral Lord West in a campaign to raise the necessary funds for the statue.
The Albert McKenzie Memorial fund was launched in 2010 and led to five years of fundraising activity.

Sir Simon Hughes PC was the Member of Parliament for Bermondsey and played a vital role in the Albert memorial fundraising campaign. He attended all of the key events and organised visits to the Houses of Parliament and to the Mole at Zeebrugge. His enthusiasm for the project was vital to its success.
Alan West
Admiral Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC PC took a huge personal interest in the fundraising campaign attending many events and introducing potential donors.
Donald Gosling
Vice-Admiral Sir Frederick Donald Gosling KCVO Chairman of National Car Parks and a major benefactor to naval charities, was a major contributor to the Albert McKenzie memorial fund which could not have been completed without his generosity.
