There’s that famous Emily Dickinson quote: “If I read a book and it makes my whole body go so cold no fire can warm me, I know that is poetry.” I believe that poetry can be found in many places. Poetry is a genre of feeling. Playwriting, music, old handwriting, antique photographs, trees, rocks, rivers, roses,( and yes, real poetry) – are all “poetry” in my mind. I believe there is art in conjuring memories that aren’t our own. The who’s and what ifs and whys of human nature are timeless. We’re breathing the same air as our ancestors - their works of good and their works of evil - they are a part of us. That is something we are destined to respect and to explore.
