This Final Assessment revisits my previous Design Studio project, a Community Exhibition Space located at Dataran Malawati, Selangor. The design was originally developed in response to the historical and cultural significance of Bukit Malawati, aiming to transform its defensive heritage into a contemporary civic space that connects history, people, and place.
Inspired by Sou Fujimoto’s “Primitive Future” philosophy, the project explores openness, ambiguity, and in-between spatial experiences. The concept, “The Armor” and “The Persistence,” reinterprets the historical fortification using weathered laterite stone to express resilience, memory, and the passage of time. A honeycomb-inspired modular system was also introduced to create flexible, interconnected spaces for exhibitions, workshops, and community activities.
This assessment reflects on the original design and re-evaluates it through the use of Artificial Intelligence. By applying AI tools for research, site analysis, concept development, sustainability strategies, and design exploration, the project investigates how the design could be improved without changing its original intent. It demonstrates how AI supports architectural thinking by expanding design possibilities, while human judgement remains essential in shaping meaningful and context-driven outcomes.
